The Role

Wood is currently seeking an experienced Business Development  Director based out of our Calgary, Alberta office to join our dynamic team in Western Canada. Reporting to the VP of Business Development for Canada. This position will support Wood's global and Canadian business units across consulting, projects, and operations, driving collaboration and growth across the organization. The successful candidate will contribute to projects spanning traditional onshore oil and gas as well as key areas of focus including Energy Transition, Hydrogen, Carbon Capture, Renewables, Alternative Fuels, Licensor Integration, BioProducts, Midstream, Pipelines, Thermal Upstream, Downstream Refining and Petrochemicals, Oilsands Mining and Offshore Oil & Gas.

Expected:

  • Bachelor level degree in a technical or related field
  • 12-15+ years experience in the Business Development and Project Execution Field
  • Experience in the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction industry
  • Experience and hold key Client relationships within major Clients organizations in the Canadian Energy industry
  • A sound understanding of projects in the Oil & Gas and Petrochemical industries
  • Proficient in use of Client Relationship Management (CRM) tools and systems
  • Good understanding of the economic and commercial drivers in the EPC business
  • Experienced with the key concepts of HSE leadership & commitment
  • Preferable to have international operations experience
  • Advanced computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft office tools, Word/Excel/PowerPoint)
  • Demonstrate a proactive and outcome-driven attitude
  • Ability to manage a diverse and challenging portfolio of Clients in various market sectors
  • Hands-on approach with internal sales team; and willing to support the development of presentations, proposals, and commercial agreements

Typical responsibilities

Strategy & Growth

  • Responsible for identifying emerging market trends, market analysis and Client-specific opportunities related to onshore/offshoreoil & gas, new energy, power generation, energy transition, Alternative Fuels, and associated energy vectors (Methanol, Ammonia), and new technologies
  • Provide support to the VP Growth & Development to aid with accurate forecasting/re-forecasting activities and prospect portfolio management
  • Leverage the full depth and breadth of Wood global solutions for our customers
  • Identify and support potential partnering agreements and JV partners
  • Be wholly familiar with various Government apparatus as it applies to contract approvals and awards as appropriate

Client Relationship Management

  • Identification, validation and leadership of key prospects and opportunities
  • Facilitate client meetings and presentations with appropriate Wood personnel to support our client needs and support business objectives
  • Responsible for the full ownership of 3-5 Key Client accounts including account planning, developing zippering plans, strategy development, and managing Client relationships
  • Create, review, manage and maintain integrity of all opportunity records in Wood's CRM system to ensure accuracy, governance and compliance
  • Ensure independent customer feedback is obtained by carrying out regular client visits. Ensuring feedback is analyzed, understood and built into improvement plans and summarized in a timely fashion and presented back to the Canada Leadership team and associated project managers.
  • Develop a strong relationship with local partners and maximize combined strengths to identify and secure work

Internal Sales

  • Development of Win Strategies and Win Plans to support proposals
  • Use commercial and contractual acumen to identify barriers to success and enable early assessment of the likely competitiveness of a Wood offering
  • Co-ordinate input into the Lead Review Meeting (LRM) process and participate in reviews with the Segment Directors
  • Be an ambassador for collaboration by working with the other regional and global Wood entities to ensure an aligned, structured and strategic customer approach to business growth and market expansion
