Job description

Bookkeeping Enterprises is looking for an experienced Senior Full-Charge Bookkeeper who knows bookkeeping inside and out and can confidently manage multiple sets of books with minimal supervision.

This is not an entry-level bookkeeping position.

We're looking for someone who can look at a set of books, recognize when something isn't right, determine why, and fix it. You should have strong technical bookkeeping skills, excellent attention to detail, and advanced hands-on QuickBooks experience.

We specialize in bookkeeping—not tax preparation or CPA services. We want someone who has made bookkeeping their specialty and is exceptionally good at it.

This position is 100% on-site in Orange County. Remote and hybrid work are not available.

What You'll Do

As a Senior Full-Charge Bookkeeper, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day and month-end bookkeeping needs of multiple clients.

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage full-cycle bookkeeping for multiple clients
  • Maintain and review general ledgers
  • Perform bank, credit card, and loan reconciliations
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Record, classify, and review transactions for accuracy
  • Prepare and post journal entries and adjusting entries
  • Payroll entries and payroll reconciliations
  • Review Balance Sheets and Profit & Loss statements for accuracy
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate discrepancies
  • Perform bookkeeping cleanup and catch-up projects
  • Identify errors, unusual balances, duplicate transactions, and misclassifications
  • Complete month-end bookkeeping and prepare financial reports
  • Maintain accurate supporting documentation and client records
  • Communicate with clients regarding missing information and bookkeeping questions
  • Manage multiple client accounts, priorities, and deadlines
  • Prepare clean and accurate books for year-end handoff to clients' tax professionals

Who We're Looking For

You may be a great fit if you're the person coworkers or clients rely on when the books don't balance.

You don't just know how to enter transactions into QuickBooks—you understand why transactions are recorded a certain way and how they affect the financial statements.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of hands-on bookkeeping/accounting experience
  • Strong QuickBooks experience is REQUIRED
  • Full-charge or senior-level bookkeeping experience
  • Excellent understanding of debits, credits, and general ledger accounting
  • Strong bank, credit card, and loan reconciliation skills
  • Experience reviewing Balance Sheets and Profit & Loss statements
  • Ability to identify and correct bookkeeping errors independently
  • Experience with month-end close and account reconciliation
  • Ability to manage multiple companies or client files simultaneously
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently without requiring constant supervision
  • Reliable, accountable, and comfortable working in a deadline-driven environment

Especially Valuable Experience

Experience in any of the following is a plus:

  • QuickBooks Online/Desktop Certification
  • Bookkeeping cleanup/catch-up projects
  • Sales & Use Tax Filings
  • Workers Comp Audits
  • Multi-entity or multi-client bookkeeping
  • Working in a bookkeeping, accounting, or professional-services firm

What This Position Is NOT

This is not a tax preparation position, and CPA credentials are not required.

We're specifically looking for an experienced bookkeeping professional who enjoys the hands-on work of maintaining accurate books, solving discrepancies, and providing clients with reliable financial information.

Why Work at Bookkeeping Enterprises?

At Bookkeeping Enterprises, you'll gain experience that's difficult to get working in one accounting department at a single company.

  • Exposure to dozens of businesses and industries. You'll work with a diverse client base, giving you hands-on experience with different business models, accounting challenges, and financial structures.
  • Broaden your accounting expertise. Rather than being limited to one function or department, you'll be exposed to the full accounting cycle and a wide variety of real-world accounting situations.
  • Continue learning and growing. Managing multiple sets of books will strengthen your troubleshooting, problem-solving, and financial analysis skills while making you a more well-rounded accounting professional.
  • Build a career with us. As Bookkeeping Enterprises grows, the right person will have opportunities to take on greater responsibility, mentor team members, oversee client relationships, and advance into a leadership or management position.

If you're an experienced bookkeeper who enjoys variety, solving problems, and continually expanding your skills, this is an opportunity to grow beyond maintaining one company's books and build a much broader accounting career.

We are actively interviewing and intend to fill this position as soon as possible.

Please submit your resume and include a brief summary of your QuickBooks experience, full-charge bookkeeping experience, and experience managing multiple companies or client accounts.
