Boiler Technician

Position Title: Boiler Technician Position Location: Vonore, TN
Position Reports To: Kiln Team Leader Position Supervises: N/A

Position Summary:
The Boiler Technician is responsible for maintaining the Boiler. The Boiler Technician maintains maximum Boiler efficiency by adjusting, reading, and interpreting gauges, indicators and steam flow meters. The Boiler Technician analyzes problems and takes appropriate action to ensure safe, continuous and reliable operation of equipment and systems. They are required to assist in all activities regarding safety, quality, operations, maintenance and continuous improvement.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Safety
  • Must follow and help enforce all rules and regulations pertaining to OSHA and HAVCO safety rules/regulations.
  • Must identify and aid in the corrections of any safety hazards.
  • Immediately notifies the Supervisor of any safety issues or concerns.
  • Must be able to move material safely using proper lifting techniques.
  • Identify and aid in the corrections of any unsafe behavior through co-worker awareness.
  • This is a safety sensitive position.
Quality
  • Must perform daily, weekly, and monthly quality inspections in their assigned area pertaining to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s).
    • Must be able to use instruments such as micrometers, tape measures, go/no-go gauges, etc. to ensure quality specifications are met.
Operation
  • Must be able to safely operate all equipment specific to your assigned area as needed.
  • Must be very observant and detail oriented to ensure safety.
  • Must be able to maintain a constant and consistent flow of material in through the process, while adjusting machinery if necessary to facilitate an efficient flow of material.
  • Must be able to set-up equipment to run material to meet customer specifications.
  • Stop production of material when quality issues are identified.
  • Stop equipment when it is identified to be unsafe to run.
  • Must be able to work any required overtime including weekends.
  • The employee is required to maintain regular, reliable and predictable attendance and punctuality.
Maintenance
  • Must perform routine maintenance activities including, but not limited to Preventative Maintenance, replacements of parts and components.
  • Must be able to troubleshoot equipment defects.
  • Fill out required maintenance documents to include, but not limited to Preventative Maintenance sheets and work orders.
  • Must be able to learn and follow the Operator Base Maintenance Pillar Route.
  • Participate on Operator Base Maintenance Teams.
Continuous Improvement
  • Must be willing to participate in and understand Root Cause Analysis practices.
  • Must have an understanding of Continuous Improvement Structure.
  • Must be able to participate in ADHOC teams to eradicate or minimize issues/losses.
  • Must be able to participate in Continuous Improvement Teams.

Education: Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
Work Experience: One year of boiler technician experience preferred.
Certifications: Must pass the appropriate assessment tests.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision and direction.
  • Must exercise a high degree of integrity with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must be able to learn and adapt quickly, take initiative, and produce complete, accurate work.
  • Must be an organized problem solver, able to meet deadlines and follow through to project completion.
  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to prioritize, multi-task and manage time efficiently.
  • Must be able to work across functional lines seamlessly.
  • Must be able to deal effectively with employees at all levels.
  • Forklift experience preferred.
  • Must understand, maintain, and sustain the 5’s process.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
  • Must be able to work in hot and cold weather environments.
  • Must be able to stand for 8 – 12 hours/day.
  • Must be able to lift, twist, bend and turn with 10-50 lbs. routinely.
  • Must be able to work at a fast pace both safely and consistently.
