Infectious Disease Physician (MD/DO) - UNC Health Rex Summary

Provides professional medical services to patients.

Responsibilities

• Provides professional medical services to patients, both in-person and in a virtual setting.
• Exercises independent professional judgment in the care and treatment of patients.
• Orders and prescribes medical treatment, diagnostic testing, nursing care and other health and medical services. Prescribes medically appropriate pharmaceuticals.
• Consults and counsels with patients and families. Provides health and medical education to patients and families.
• Refers patients as needed to appropriate medical specialists and other health care professionals to ensure appropriate multidisciplinary care is provided.
• Documents medical and clinical care in the patient's medical record. Assigns the appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes to permit third‑party insurance billing.
• Supervises other medical professionals.
• Adheres to the principles of medical ethics.

UNC Rex Hospital

Founded in 1894, UNC REX Healthcare (a member of UNC Health Care) is a private, not-for-profit health care system that joined UNC Health Care in 2000. In addition to a 660‑bed facility in Raleigh, UNC Rex also offers a range of health care services at locations across Wake County. These include 5 wellness centers, 6 suburban campuses, freestanding outpatient diagnostic urgent care and surgery centers, and 2 skilled nursing facilities focusing on rehabilitation and long‑term nursing care.

Education Requirements

• Meeting the Board Certification in Infectious Disease required. Graduation from an accredited school of medicine.

Licensure/Certification Requirements

• Board Certified Infectious Diseases
• DEA; BLS; MD/DO, NCMB

Professional Experience Requirements

• Prefer prior inpatient experience.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Requirements

• Language Skills: Should be able to communicate proficiently in English.
• REASONING ABILITY: High‑level quantitative and qualitative reasoning skills are essential to diagnose medical and clinical issues presented by patients.
