Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION/DUTIES:

The Scientific Program Analyst will support the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Clinical Center (CC), Department of Bioethics by providing scientific research, program coordination, manuscript management, and data analysis support for ongoing clinical and bioethics research initiatives. The successful candidate will collaborate with multidisciplinary research teams to support research studies, scientific publications, departmental educational programs, and research operations while ensuring the efficient coordination of multiple concurrent projects. This description reflects the current responsibilities performed in the role in addition to the foundational data management responsibilities identified in the Task Order.

* Conduct comprehensive literature reviews to support clinical and bioethics research projects.

* Assist investigators with qualitative and quantitative research studies.

* Conduct participant interviews and support qualitative data collection efforts.

* Perform qualitative coding and thematic analysis using qualitative research software.

* Conduct basic statistical analyses and prepare data summaries to support research initiatives.

* Create publication-quality tables, graphs, figures, and visualizations for scientific manuscripts and presentations.

* Edit, format, and coordinate scientific manuscripts for internal NIH review and submission to peer-reviewed journals.

* Maintain departmental manuscript tracking databases and publication records.

* Coordinate internal manuscript review workflows and monitor publication status.

* Organize and maintain research documentation, shared files, and departmental databases.

* Coordinate departmental educational programs, seminars, and scientific meetings.

* Schedule meetings, communicate with faculty and guest speakers, prepare agendas, and distribute meeting materials.

* Coordinate speaker logistics, reimbursements, certificates, and audiovisual support for departmental educational events.

* Serve as the primary coordinator for Research Methods Series meetings, Empirical Research Lab meetings, and other departmental scientific activities.

* Record meeting minutes, document action items, and maintain meeting records.

* Coordinate Clinical Center Ethics Committee meetings and prepare meeting documentation.

* Research, evaluate, and assist with implementation of software platforms and research management systems.

* Develop and improve research tracking tools and workflow processes to increase operational efficiency.

* Perform data validation, quality assurance (QA), and quality control (QC) activities to ensure research data integrity.

* Develop and maintain research databases, tracking spreadsheets, and documentation.

* Utilize Microsoft Excel and automation techniques to organize, reconcile, and validate large research datasets.

* Collaborate with investigators, clinicians, statisticians, and research staff across multidisciplinary teams.

* Maintain confidentiality of research data and comply with NIH policies and research regulations.

* Prepare reports, presentations, and other scientific documentation.

* Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / EXPERTISE REQUIREMENTS:

* Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Bioethics, Biology, Psychology, Neuroscience, Biomedical Sciences, Statistics, Sociology, Philosophy, Health Sciences, or a related scientific discipline.

* Minimum one (1) year of experience supporting clinical, biomedical, academic, or public health research.

* Experience conducting literature reviews and scientific research.

* Experience supporting scientific manuscripts, publications, or technical writing.

* Experience coordinating research projects or scientific programs.

* Experience organizing meetings, educational events, or research initiatives.

* Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

* Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.

* Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.

* Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / EXPERTISE:

* Master's degree in Public Health (MPH), Bioethics, Psychology, Statistics, Data Science, Epidemiology, Health Sciences, or a related field.

* Experience supporting NIH, HHS, academic medical centers, or biomedical research organizations.

* Experience with qualitative research methodologies.

* Experience using NVivo, Covidence, R, Qualtrics, REDCap, or similar research software.

* Experience performing qualitative coding or statistical analyses.

* Experience coordinating scientific meetings or educational programs.

* Experience preparing figures, tables, and visualizations for publications.

* Experience supporting systematic reviews or evidence synthesis projects.

* Knowledge of research compliance, manuscript review processes, and scientific publishing.

* Experience working in clinical research, bioethics, or public health research environments.
