Salary range: A reasonable salary range estimate for this position is $119,300-$139,100.
The posted UC Academic salary scales set the minimum pay as determined by rank and/or step at appointment. See the following table(s) for the salary scale(s) for this position: Salary Scale . The base salary range, from the salary table(s), for this position is $80,800-$104,700. "Off-scale salaries" and other components of pay, i.e., a salary that is higher than the published system-wide salary at the designated rank and step, are offered when necessary to meet competitive conditions, qualifications, and experience.

Position description
Assistant Professor - Paleoclimate/Paleoceanography/Sediment Geochemistry
The Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO), Scripps Website at the University of California San Diego invites applications for a full-time 9-month tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor. With this recruitment we are specifically searching for candidates who integrate marine observations and geology or geochemistry methodologies to address research questions in paleoceanography, paleoclimate, or geological oceanography. We have a particular interest in attracting candidates with expertise in the geochemical analysis of marine, terrestrial or ice core archives, to enhance existing institutional programs in oceanography and climate sciences. In their applications, candidates are encouraged to discuss how their work informs the physical and/or biogeochemical processes relevant for the modern and future ocean/climate system. Candidates are also encouraged to demonstrate how their research will build on world class laboratory facilities, marine and sea-going strengths, and modeling expertise at Scripps, while advancing an equity-minded and collaborative research environment.
SIO at UC San Diego is a world-renowned institution for oceanographic, atmospheric, biological, and solid Earth research with approximately 200 principal investigators and extensive research facilities Scripps Facilities . We strive for interdisciplinary engagement and rigorous data science. SIO and UC San Diego more broadly, fosters academic excellence and a culture of mutual respect and inclusivity within its faculty, staff, and student body. Candidates are encouraged to highlight how they anticipate integrating UC San Diego's Principles of Community in their research, teaching, and service.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop and maintain a vigorous externally funded research program and provide intellectual leadership in their field. They will be required to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels in Geochemistry, Marine Chemistry, and/or Geoscience at UC San Diego and establish inclusive teaching practices. We are especially interested in candidates with expertise to teach in our Geosciences Major and/or Oceanic and Atmospheric Science major as well as to teach graduate courses in sediment geochemistry, marine geology, paleoceanography, and/or paleoclimate. Supervision and mentoring of graduate students and service to the department, university, and broader discipline are also required in this role.
Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
Candidates must possess a Ph.D. or equivalent in oceanography, marine geology, geochemistry, climate science or a related field at the time of application.
Preferred qualifications
Preferred candidates will have a competitive record of publication and service, and evidence of ability or strong potential to secure extramural funding and to conduct an active research program while contributing to impactful undergraduate and graduate teaching.
