Position Summary
The Academic Technology Specialist reports to the Assistant Provost for Faculty Affairs and provides support to the Division of Academic Affairs regarding the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
Essential Functions
- Assist and support faculty, staff, and students in day-to-day functions of Canvas. Support includes but is not limited to, troubleshooting Canvas issues, processing Canvas requests, and fielding operational questions through email, phone, and in-person settings.
- Assist LMS Administrator with the supervision of help desk duties and assuring the completion of required tasks.
- Update and maintain training resources to faculty, staff, and students. This includes maintaining student and faculty/staff orientations for Canvas and related technologies.
- Mentoring Help Desk Support Student Workers.
- Assist in initial research of new technologies related to learning management systems.
- Professional Development.
- Maintain educational technology equipment for the Center for Teaching Innovation.
- Other Duties as Assigned.
Education & Experience
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree/ 4 years relevant experience - Bachelor's degree, preferably in technology, education, or related field, or 4 years of relevant experience.
- Strong customer service skills over phone, email, and in-person with faculty, staff, students, and the public.
- Self-motivated and capable of working with little supervision and as a member of a team.
- Ability to work cooperatively and professionally with faculty, staff, and CTI team on special projects with SUU faculty/staff, students, and the public.
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple and simultaneous tasks/issues.
- Knowledge of or ability/willingness to learn various computer programs and platforms, such as Adobe Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Applications, Kaltura, HTML, and video conferencing software.
- Knowledge of an education learning management system, preferably Canvas.
Preferred Qualifications
- Customer service experience.
- Experience providing technical support in a professional workplace setting.
- Experience providing training to colleagues.
- Higher education work experience.
- Experience with Adobe Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Applications, Kaltura, HTML, video conferencing software or Canvas.
