Position Overview
The Director of Redemption is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the redemption and recycling operations at a leading NYC beer distributor. This role ensures compliance with state and local regulations, and drives efficiency in bottle and can returns. The Director will lead process improvements, financial oversight, and vendor relations, while maintaining strong collaboration with internal departments and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
  • Direct daily redemption operations, including the collection, processing, and return of redeemable containers.
  • Ensure compliance with New York State Bottle Bill and all applicable recycling and environmental regulations.
  • Implement and monitor preventative maintenance and sanitation procedures for redemption facilities and equipment.
  • Lead and manage a unionized workforce, ensuring adherence to collective bargaining agreements.
  • Develop staffing plans, schedules, and training to maximize efficiency while maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Develop and manage redemption operating budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting.
  • Track and analyze key performance indicators, including container return volumes, processing efficiency, and cost per unit.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce costs, improve productivity, and optimize revenue from recycled materials.
  • Enforce company safety policies, OSHA standards, and environmental best practices.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation required for regulatory reporting.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure compliance with state, city, and company standards.
  • Build and maintain relationships with recycling vendors, beverage suppliers, and regulatory agencies.
  • Partner with operations, fleet, and warehouse teams to coordinate redemption logistics.
  • Communicate effectively with senior leadership on operational performance and strategic initiatives.
  • Managing, training, developing and regular work with time for all direct reports.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in business, Supply Chain, Environmental Management, or related field; MBA a plus.
  • 8+ years of progressive operations management experience, preferably in beverage distribution, recycling, or related industries.
  • Demonstrated experience managing a union workforce in a high-volume environment.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience in budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of NYC recycling laws and New York State Bottle Bill regulations strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and operational management systems.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to work in a warehouse/recycling facility environment.
  • Comfortable around industrial equipment, noise, and moving vehicles.
  • Ability to stand, walk, or lift up to 25 lbs. as needed.

Salary Range: $130,000.00-$150.000.00
It is not typical for offers to be made at or near the top of the range. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.
