Job Description:
Are you a communicator experienced at connecting key stakeholders, community partners, and the public to advance good? If you are passionate about translating mission-driven work into communications that spark engagement and results, let's talk. The Communications Manager will help to lead and implement communications for the Eastern Bank Foundation, translating its mission and impact into compelling communications that engage employees, nonprofit partners, and community leaders. You'll shape how the Foundation communicates its work, working closely with the Foundation and Eastern Bank's communications teams to advance the Foundation's reputation as a philanthropic leader, and collaborate with Eastern Bank employees and community partners across the region. This role is for a strategic storyteller, strong project manager, and collaborative communicator who works comfortably across the full range of communications, content, and audiences. You should be interested in and enjoy pivoting easily between strategic and tactical work as the role requires both designing communications approaches and rolling up your sleeves to implement and get the work done as a solo contributor.
Position Summary:
  • Strategic Communications:
    • Shape the Foundation's communications strategy to highlight its theory of change, impact of investments, role in the local community, and commitment to drive economic mobility.
    • Produce integrated communications and content across internal and external communications channels, digital platforms, and events.
  • Systems Change Storytelling:
    • Translate complex community and systems change work, including around workforce development, early childhood development, safe and affordable housing, and advancing small businesses, into accessible stories for different audiences.
    • Support thought leadership, policy-oriented communications, and ecosystem storytelling that elevates community partners.
  • Community Visibility and Engagement:
    • Spotlight the Foundation's community contributions, sponsorships, awards, and Eastern Bank employee volunteerism (30,000+ annual volunteer hours).
    • Develop toolkits, templates, ads, quotes, press materials, videos, and other assets to strengthen the Foundation's impact.
  • Employee Communications:
    • Assist with internal communications to connect Bank and Wealth employees with Foundation-related opportunities around volunteering, grantmaking, board service, and community engagement.
  • Public Relations:
    • Support media relations, thought leadership, and press events to elevate the Foundation's leadership, work, and expertise. Prep spokespeople.
  • Communications-Related Operations:
    • Maintain communications processes, such as managing and creating: photography; editorial calendars; graphics; measurement dashboards; presentations; and reports.
    • Assist with a range of Foundation-related events.

Job Requirements:
What You Bring
  • Seven-plus years of experience in communications, public relations, employee engagement, corporate social responsibility, or related fields (corporate and/or nonprofit).
  • Comfortable balancing hands-on implementation and tactical work, including around message development, content creation, media relations, event support, and measurement, with strategy.
  • Familiarity with philanthropy, community-based organizations, and systems change work. Financial services experience a plus.
  • Strong writer with outstanding written, verbal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Flexible, and comfortable adapting to changing priorities and circumstances. Ability to move fluidly between big-picture thinking and day-to-day execution in a fast-moving environment.
  • Collaborative, and able to work independently and with cross-functional teams.
  • Intellectually curious, sound business judgment, and a proactive approach to taking ideas from concept to implementation.
  • Proficient with Microsoft 365 tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, AI), media monitoring and reporting tools, and digital communications.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
