Overview
Job Purpose
The Storage and Backup services team manages the global storage footprint at ICE spread across different geographic regions and supports multiple storage & backup technologies. The team is responsible for data backup, storage, availability, and storage lifecycle management for all data in the organization.
ICE is looking to hire a Backup Engineer to be part of a team responsible for the administration and installation of a large multi-site NetBackup environment running on Linux and Windows Servers. Responsibilities include the installation, configuration and maintenance of the NetBackup servers and clients that backup data to de-duplication disk appliances and physical tape libraries. This work supports a backup environment with 5,000 clients and 20 petabytes of data.
Team members are expected to be proficient in multiple backup technologies and methods. Writing procedures, helping set standards and out of box thinking are key. Scripting and automating routine tasks to improve efficiencies are a must. Working in a team, collaborating, sharing, and exchanging ideas for continuous improvement are necessary to be successful in the environment. Good written and verbal communication skills are essential.
Responsibilities
  • Configure, implement, and support data backup solutions that meet the business needs within the required SLA.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve backup failures and issues.
  • Service tickets and customer requests for backups, Disaster Recovery tests, and client backup verification
  • Perform daily, weekly, and quarterly audits to ensure that backup SLAs are maintained.
  • Work with internal customers to determine backup needs and implement solutions that meet them.
  • Participate in the team On-Call rotation.
  • Write/maintain documentation and drive efficiencies via automation.

Knowledge and Experience
  • 3 to 5 years of hands-on Veritas NetBackup experience in a large heterogeneous enterprise.
  • Strong knowledge of NetBackup database agents including Oracle RMAN, Microsoft SQL, Microsoft Exchange, and Enterprise Vault.
  • Knowledge of Veritas Flex & Access appliances.
  • Knowledge of Dell EMC Data Domain or other backup appliances, Enterprise-Class tape libraries like Oracle STK SL8500/SL4000/SL3000, ACSLS and Spectra Stack.
  • Knowledge of other enterprise backup software products such as Veritas Backup Exec, Commvault Simpana, Microsoft Data Protection Manager (DPM), IBM Spectrum Protect (Formerly Tivoli Storage Manager) is a big plus.
  • Good understanding of Brocade SAN Fabric.
  • Good understanding of TCP/IP networks & routing and troubleshooting.
  • Good understanding of DNS, its role and importance to data backup and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of Linux & Windows with focus on HBA drivers, settings, multi-pathing configurations and volume management.
  • Experience with Rubrik data protection appliance/environment would be a plus.
  • Experience with Data Archiving concepts, solutions and technologies.
  • Experience with and/or knowledge/understanding of S3 API and S3 Protocol.
  • Hands on experience with S3 data management tools including both S3 CLI and GUI clients.
  • Must have a keen eye towards process and technology improvement resulting in better, faster, and more resilient solutions that improve the value to the organization.
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to pick up and learn new products as well as adapt to a variety of situations and tasks.
  • Strong analytical skills; Able to assess and solve issues in a high-pressure environment.
  • Strong organizational skills: must be able to prioritize work and ability to multitask without sacrificing attention to details.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Work effectively in a high paced rapidly changing environment with changing priorities and deliverables.
  • Ability to coordinate and collaborate with business application stakeholders and infrastructure teams to ensure successful upgrades or system maintenance activities.
  • B.S. degree in computer engineering or equivalent preferred but not required. Storage Industry recognized certifications are a plus.
