To thrive as a Backup Engineer (Remote), you need strong knowledge of data backup and recovery concepts, experience with storage technologies, and typically a degree in IT or a related field. Familiarity with backup software such as Veeam, Commvault, or Veritas NetBackup, as well as certifications like CompTIA Server+ or vendor-specific credentials, are highly valuable.
