Applications are invited from suitably qualified registrars for the position of Advanced Trainee in Anaesthetics - Retrieval Medicine with the Tamworth Retrieval Service (TRS).
This role is a full-time position for 12mths, comprised of 0.5 FTE at Tamworth Retrieval Base and 0.5 FTE in Tamworth Rural Referral Hospital Anaesthetic Department. There is opportunity to commence in Feb 2027 or Aug 2027.
Successful candidates will provide direct medical care to critically ill and injured adult and paediatric patients requiring medical retrieval from pre-hospital or health facility sites. They will also consolidate their clinical skills and regional health experience whilst working in a large regional referral hospital. This is a highly collaborative, dynamic and rewarding role. Excellent communication skills and teamwork are paramount for success in this role.
Candidates will be provided aviation and onboarding training at the commencement of the position. Aviation and clinical currencies must be maintained in order to remain operational.
You will be required to collaborate with NSW Health, NSW Ambulance and aviation staff as required with respect to patient management and transport related issues as well as communicate effectively with senior staff as required regarding clinical management of patients.
  1. MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  2. Late Stage Advanced Trainee or Fellowship qualification in Anaesthetic Medicine.
  3. Ability to competently care for critically ill and injured patients in the prehospital and interhospital environment with minimal resources and backup.
  4. Ability to perform duties competently, both physically and psychologically, in the prehospital and inter-hospital environments.
  5. Ability to safely adapt clinical practice to the environment.
  6. Superior verbal and written communication skills with a demonstrated ability to communicate concisely, diplomatically and effectively with a variety of health and non-health professionals.
  7. Proven ability to comply with organisational policy and procedures, especially those related clinical governance and to safety.
  8. Ability to undertake and maintain aviation training including HUET (Helicopter Underwater Escape Training), winching and all other contracted requirements of the aviation training agency. Ability to provide critical care advice and management via phone and telehealth to patients with critical care needs throughout the HNELHD district.
