Job description

Automotive Parts Manager โ€“ Job Summary

The Automotive Parts Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the parts department, ensuring profitability, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction. This role includes managing inventory, staff, purchasing, merchandising, and vendor relationships to support both the service department and retail/wholesale operations.


Key Responsibilities
  • Set and manage goals, budgets, and performance metrics for the parts department

  • Hire, train, and lead a high-performing parts team

  • Maintain optimal inventory levels for service, body shop, wholesale, and retail needs

  • Implement effective purchasing, pricing, and merchandising strategies

  • Monitor and improve parts turnover and minimize obsolescence

  • Coordinate with service and collision departments for timely internal part delivery

  • Analyze sales, gross profit, and expenses monthly to meet profitability targets

  • Develop aggressive wholesale and retail growth strategies, including promotions

  • Ensure all manufacturer credits and returns are properly processed

  • Supervise shipping/receiving and ensure accurate paperwork flow

  • Maintain high levels of internal and external customer satisfaction

  • Conduct weekly team meetings and attend leadership meetings

  • Oversee compliance with safety, OSHA, and environmental regulations

  • Handle customer concerns and ensure dealership guidelines are followed

  • Track lost sales, create performance reports, and adjust strategy as needed


Qualifications
  • 4โ€“10+ years of automotive parts experience, including supervisory roles

  • Strong understanding of inventory control, pricing, and forecasting

  • Proven leadership and team-building skills

  • Experience working with DMS systems (CDK, Reynolds, etc.)

  • Exceptional customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills

  • Strong understanding of service & collision shop integration


Skills & Abilities
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills

  • Ability to read and interpret financial reports, procedures, and technical documents

  • Capable of leading meetings, presenting to leadership, and writing performance reports

  • Comfortable calculating margins, discounts, and applying business math

  • Ability to solve practical problems with multiple variables under tight deadlines


Preferred Certifications
  • ASE Certified Parts Specialist

  • I-CAR Training (for body shop integration)

  • Valid Driverโ€™s License

  • Other ASE Certifications in Service or Collision a plus


Physical & Work Requirements
  • Ability to stand, lift, and move inventory as needed

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced, high-demand dealership environment
