What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in Automated Manufacturing, and why are they important?

To thrive in Automated Manufacturing, you need a solid background in engineering principles, manufacturing processes, and automation systems, often supported by a degree in engineering or industrial technology. Familiarity with PLC programming, robotics, CAD/CAM software, and certifications such as Six Sigma or OSHA safety are typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective teamwork distinguish top performers in this field. These skills ensure consistent production quality, minimize downtime, and drive efficiency in highly automated manufacturing environments.

What are some examples of automated manufacturing?

Automated manufacturing involves using machines and robotics to produce goods with minimal human intervention. Examples include robotic assembly lines in automotive factories, CNC (computer numerical control) machines for precision machining, and automated packaging systems. These technologies improve efficiency, consistency, and safety in production environments.

What jobs pay $2000 a day?

In automated manufacturing, high-paying roles such as automation engineers, robotics specialists, and manufacturing managers can earn around $2,000 per day, especially with extensive experience, specialized skills, and certifications. These positions often require advanced technical knowledge, problem-solving abilities, and familiarity with automation tools and systems.

How does an Automated Manufacturing professional typically collaborate with engineers and production teams on process improvements?

Automated Manufacturing professionals frequently work alongside engineers and production teams to identify inefficiencies and implement technological upgrades in manufacturing processes. This collaboration often involves jointly analyzing production data, troubleshooting automation equipment, and testing new solutions to optimize workflow. Regular meetings and cross-functional project teams are common, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation. Effective communication and technical understanding are key to ensuring that process changes align with both production goals and safety standards.

What is the difference between Automated Manufacturing vs Manufacturing Technician?

AspectAutomated ManufacturingManufacturing Technician
CredentialsTechnical certifications, automation trainingTechnical diploma or associate degree
Work EnvironmentFactories with automated systems, roboticsFactories with manual and semi-automated equipment
Industry UsageDesign, programming, and maintaining automation systemsOperating, troubleshooting, and maintaining manufacturing equipment
Common Search IntentAutomation processes, system integrationMachine operation, maintenance

Automated Manufacturing focuses on designing, programming, and maintaining automated systems and robotics used in production. Manufacturing Technicians operate and troubleshoot manufacturing equipment, often working alongside automation but with a more hands-on role. Both roles are essential in modern factories, but Automated Manufacturing emphasizes system integration, while Manufacturing Technicians focus on equipment operation and maintenance.

Is AI taking over manufacturing jobs?

Automated manufacturing involves the use of AI and robotics to perform tasks traditionally done by humans, increasing efficiency and reducing costs. While AI can replace some manual roles, it also creates new jobs in areas like maintenance, programming, and system management, making the overall impact on employment complex and evolving. Workers with skills in technology, programming, and machine operation are increasingly in demand in this field.

What is automated manufacturing?

Automated manufacturing refers to the use of control systems, such as computers or robots, and information technologies to handle different processes and machinery in an industry to replace human intervention. This approach increases efficiency, precision, and consistency in production. Automated manufacturing can be found in various industries, including automotive, electronics, and food processing, and often involves advanced technologies like robotics, artificial intelligence, and computer-aided design. It helps companies reduce costs, improve quality, and increase production speed.

What is the highest paying manufacturing job?

In automated manufacturing, roles such as manufacturing engineering managers and automation engineers tend to have the highest salaries, often exceeding six figures. These positions typically require advanced technical skills, certifications, and experience with robotics, PLC programming, and process optimization.

Job description

Major Duties

We are seeking a Systems Architect to join our Pre-Automation Services Team, where you will play a critical role collaborating with our customers to shape the front-end architecture of advanced automated manufacturing systems. This is a conceptual and pre-design role that defines the digital and physical frameworks guiding all downstream engineering, controls, and software activities.

Your core mission is to determine what should be built and how it should function, using systems thinking, simulation, and data-driven decision making to architect solutions that are scalable, integrated, and future-ready. This is not a detailed design, controls, or implementation role. This is a strategic design role at the intersection of systems engineering, industrial engineering, and advanced automation, focused on upstream system architecture, risk reduction, and requirements development.

You will work directly with customers and internal teams to define high-level concepts, assess technical feasibility, and develop architectural content that serve as the blueprint for future automation programs.

Specific Responsibilities

ย Lead the conceptual system architecture of advanced manufacturing platforms, integrating automation, digital systems, data, physical equipment, and operations in close collaboration withย  ย  ย customers
โ€ข Define system boundaries, material and data flows, interfaces, and functional blocks based on customer goals and future state use cases, and that serve as the foundation for follow-onย  ย  ย  ย  ย detailed engineering design
โ€ข Develop ย clear, actionable system requirements and acceptance criteria that are traceable to customer needs, business goals, and regulatory requirements
โ€ข Conduct simulation, modeling, and studies to explore architectural options, capacity strategies, and system performance scenarios
โ€ข Leverage data-driven methods to validate design assumptions, identify risks, and optimize architectural outcomes before handoff to design teams
โ€ข Proactively identify and mitigate early-stage product, process, design, integration, performance, and technology risks through proof-of-concept work or conceptual validation
โ€ข Engage stakeholders, including customers and internal teams, to understand use cases, digital maturity, and future systems needs
โ€ข Collaborate with engineering, controls, IT, operations, and sales to ensure architecture aligns with customerโ€™s long-term strategic goals and execution capabilities
โ€ข Produce architectural deliverables, including system user requirements documents (URSs), functional design specification documents (FRSs), functional block diagrams, and early risk registers
โ€ข Update and evolve architectural requirements and assumptions as system understanding grows and scope evolves
โ€ข Contribute to enterprise-wide frameworks for smart manufacturing, digital enablement, and Information Technology (IT)/Operational Technology (OT) integration

Qualifications
ย Bachelorโ€™s degree in Systems, Industrial, Mechanical, Software, or Electrical Engineering or equivalent. Masterโ€™s or MBA is an asset.
โ€ข 7+ years of experience in systems architecture, automation strategy, or conceptual design of complex manufacturing systems
โ€ข Knowledge of:
ย  ย  ย  ย  - Systems engineering principles (requirements development, interface management, V-model, risk analysis and mitigation
ย  ย  ย  ย  - Simulation tools (Plant Simulation, or equivalent)
ย  ย  ย  ย  - Industrial automation systems (robotics, PLCs, SCADA, MES, data acquisition, I/O)
