Position Overview

The Medical Collector - Insurance AR - is responsible for ensuring timely and accurate reimbursement by working directly with insurance companies, government payers, and patients. This role focuses on resolving outstanding balances, managing insurance aging, and maintaining clear documentation to support revenue cycle operations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and experienced in healthcare collections and billing processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and work assigned insurance aging reports to resolve outstanding claims
  • Contact insurance companies regarding past-due balances and follow up on unpaid claims
  • Research, re-file, and resolve denied or delayed claims to ensure maximum reimbursement
  • Communicate with insurance carriers to determine reasons for payment delays
  • File appeals with insurance companies as needed
  • Post non-payments, adjustments, and denials accurately in the system
  • Respond to patient inquiries regarding account balances and billing questions
  • Document all communications with insurance companies and patients thoroughly
  • Sort, scan, and file correspondence related to claims and billing

Requirements

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience in healthcare collections and/or medical billing
  • Working knowledge of procedure and diagnosis coding
  • Experience with Athena (Athenahealth) medical billing system preferred
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized, self-motivated, and detail-oriented

Additional Requirements

  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information in compliance with HIPAA and company policies
  • Must be fluent in speaking, reading, and writing English

Work Environment

  • This is a fully in-office position based in Fort Myers, FL
