JOB SUMMARY

The Director of Operations serves as a member of the senior leadership team and is responsible for the strategic leadership, oversight, and performance of all operational functions of Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando, including shelter operations, veterinary services, animal care, adoptions, intake, foster programs, behavior and training, customer service, facilities, and related support functions.


This position develops and implements operational strategies that advance the organization's mission, increase lifesaving capacity, expand access to care, improve animal outcomes, and strengthen services provided to pets and people throughout the community. The Director of Operations ensures that resources, staffing, facilities, and systems are aligned to support organizational goals while maintaining the highest standards of animal welfare, veterinary care, customer service, and operational effectiveness.


Working closely with the Executive Director and leadership team, the Director of Operations drives strategic planning initiatives, identifies opportunities for innovation and growth, and develops scalable programs and processes that enable Pet Alliance to save more lives, serve more animals, and increase its impact throughout Central Florida.

  • Develop and execute operational strategies that increase lifesaving outcomes, improve access to care, expand organizational capacity, and advance the mission of Pet Alliance.
  • Serve as a member of the senior leadership team and contribute to organizational strategic planning, goal setting, and decision making.
  • Provide strategic leadership and oversight of all shelter, veterinary, animal care, adoption, intake, foster, behavior, customer service, facilities, and operational support functions.
  • Establish, monitor, and evaluate key performance indicators related to animal outcomes, live release rates, adoption performance, length of stay, veterinary services, customer experience, operational efficiency, and community impact.
  • Lead long-range operational planning to support organizational growth, sustainability, and expansion of services.
  • Ensure staffing structures, resources, facilities, and operational systems effectively support organizational goals and future growth.
  • Foster a culture of compassion, accountability, collaboration, innovation, continuous improvement, and excellence in animal welfare and customer service.
  • Utilize operational data, industry benchmarks, and organizational metrics to guide decision making, resource allocation, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with leadership and department managers to identify opportunities for innovation, increased efficiency, and improved animal and community outcomes.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, professional standards, accreditation requirements, and organizational policies.
  • Develop, manage, and monitor operational budgets and financial performance to ensure responsible stewardship of organizational resources.
  • Oversee contracts, vendor relationships, facilities maintenance, and operational infrastructure necessary to support organizational effectiveness.
  • Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain high-performing managers and operational leaders while fostering succession planning and professional growth.
  • Partner with the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and leadership team to provide operational reports, recommendations, analyses, and strategic guidance.
  • Represent Pet Alliance professionally within the animal welfare community and maintain awareness of emerging trends, best practices, and innovations in animal welfare, veterinary medicine, and nonprofit operations.
  • Ensure operational readiness and effective response to emergencies, crises, and unforeseen organizational challenges.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission and strategic objectives of the organization.
