Job description

Software Test Engineer, Lead

The Opportunity:

Are you looking for an opportunity to combine your technical skills with big picture thinking to make an impact on national security? You understand your customer's environment and how to develop the right systems for their mission. Your ability to translate real-world needs into technical specifications makes you an integral part of delivering a customer-focused engineering solution. If this sounds like you, come join Booz Allen's team to work on an exciting defense capability program.

As a Software Test Engineer, you will work with Booz Allen colleagues and the U.S. Navy to develop and rapidly deploy the next generation GPS-degraded, semi-autonomous defense capability. Your customer will trust you to test, analyze, evaluate, verify, and validate the software and autonomy that drive these systems - building and executing automated test against established requirements, exercising algorithms in software- and model-in-the-loop environments, and identifying defects and areas requiring urgent mitigation early in the development cycle. Grow your skills by merging innovative test methodologies and cross-disciplinary coordination to create tomorrow's solutions. Join our team and create the future of autonomous systems.

Join us. The world can't wait.

You Have:

  • 10+ years of experience leading test and evaluation, verification, or validation of software-intensive systems on government programs such as the DoD
  • 10+ years of experience working in a collaborative team environment developing test strategies, plans, reports, and briefings, and participating in software test execution, verification, or analysis
  • Experience developing and executing automated testing, including test scripting and the use of automated test frameworks and continuous integration pipelines
  • Experience performing requirements-based software verification, including test of software interfaces, messaging, and data
  • Knowledge of systems engineering standards, including IEEE 15288.1 and IEEE 15288.2
  • Ability to define, develop, maintain, and execute large-scale system test plans and overarching test and evaluation strategy documents based on System and Subsystem Requirements, including Test and Evaluation Strategy (TES), Test and Evaluation Master Plans (TEMP), System Integration Test Plans (SITP), Enterprise Verification Plans (EVP), Verification Cross Reference Matrices (VCRM), and Requirements Verification Files (RVFs)
  • Ability to communicate and establish collaborative relationships with government clients, Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDCs), developing contractors, and associate contractor teammates to achieve program goals
  • Secret clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physics field

Nice If You Have:

  • Experience testing autonomy, machine learning, or GPS-degraded navigation software
  • Experience with software-in-the-loop (SIL) or model-in-the-loop (MIL) test environments
  • Experience with test automation tooling and languages such as Python and pytest, and with CI/CD tools such as GitLab CI or Jenkins
  • Experience with code coverage, static and dynamic analysis, and defect tracking
  • Experience with portfolio and program verification, interoperability, validation, certification, and operational acceptance
  • Experience planning, executing, and reporting testing with the Lead Developmental Test Organization or the Operational Test Agency
  • Experience using Model-Based Systems Engineering tools to manage system definitions, technical baselines, and requirements verification
  • Knowledge of DoD 5000.01, 5000.02, 5000.89, 5000.98, or 5000.100
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or Technology
  • CTEP or INCOSE Systems Engineering Professional certification such as ASEP, CSEP, or ESEP
