What are some common challenges faced by part-time Test Engineers, and how can they be addressed?

Part-time Test Engineers often face challenges related to time management and communication, as they may not be present during all project meetings or development cycles. To address these issues, it’s important to maintain clear documentation and regular updates with the team, ensuring that testing priorities and results are communicated effectively. Leveraging collaborative tools and maintaining flexibility can help balance workload and ensure that quality standards are met despite limited hours. Building strong relationships with full-time colleagues can also help streamline handoffs and clarify expectations.

What are Part Time Test Engineers?

Part Time Test Engineers are professionals who work fewer hours than full-time employees to test software, hardware, or systems for quality and functionality. Their responsibilities typically include designing test cases, executing tests, identifying bugs, and reporting issues to the development team. Part-time positions offer flexibility, making them suitable for students, parents, or those seeking work-life balance. These engineers play a critical role in ensuring products meet quality standards before release, even on a reduced schedule.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Part Time Test Engineer, and why are they important?

A Part Time Test Engineer needs a solid background in software testing principles, familiarity with quality assurance methodologies, and a relevant technical degree or equivalent experience. Proficiency in test automation tools (such as Selenium or JUnit), bug tracking systems, and version control software is typically required. Strong attention to detail, effective communication, and time management are crucial soft skills for excelling in this flexible role. These competencies ensure efficient identification and resolution of software issues, contributing to reliable product releases even within limited working hours.

Test Engineer
The Opportunity:
When a user tries new software, they expect it to be intuitive and run smoothly. Functionality, reliability, and user experience are key to successful software development, and that means rigorous testing. That's why we need you, an experienced test engineer who knows how to thoroughly test software and work with developers to make sure our team releases the best software possible.
As a test engineer on our team, you'll use your experience to work with developers and engineers to evaluate software developed for national defense. You'll create a test plan with test cases based on user stories. Using automation to streamline, you'll generate data and implement the test cases to observe how the software performs, then document the results and communicate defects to the development team so they can start improving the tool.
You'll automate continuous security and performance testing and monitor the health of data platforms. This is an opportunity to supercharge your skills by writing the code to test. You'll also broaden your experience in cloud development and gain skills in new areas such as automation and machine learning while sharing your testing experience with your team.
Work with us as we develop software solutions to secure our defense networks.
Join us. The world can't wait.
You Have:
  • 2+ years of experience with Agile release methodologies, test automation, developing frameworks or automated test scripts
  • Experience with software testing, traceability matrices, including continuous integration (CI) or Continuous Delivery (CD) pipeline solutions
  • Experience with developing and configuring automated test scripts and maintaining automated test and test environments
  • Experience with End to End and usability testing
  • Top Secret clearance
  • HS diploma or GED

Nice If You Have:
  • Experience with functional testing, regression testing, performance testing, 508 testing, or system integration testing
  • Experience with DevOps concepts and integrating regression tests of the CI/CD pipelines
  • Experience with implementing test automation suites
  • Experience with scripting languages, including Python, PowerShell, Bash, PHP, Java, Node, or Ruby
  • Experience with developing data integrity test scripts on databases, including Oracle and PostgreSQL
  • Knowledge of non-functional automation testing tools, including JMeter, SoapUI, Postman, or LoadRunner
  • Ability to manage discrepancies identified during testing and collaborate with the software development team to resolve software bugs
  • TS/SCI clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in an IT field
  • Security+ Certification

Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; Top Secret clearance is required.
