Plainville, CT โ€ข On-site

Full-time

Posted 10 days ago

Job description

The Test Engineer executes product verification and validation for electro-mechanical sensor products and assemblies, ensuring accurate, repeatable, and data-driven test results. This role works hands-on in the lab to develop and execute test methods, contribute to DVP&R, and support root cause investigations. The Test Engineer plays a key role in validating product performance and reliability by translating requirements into effective test execution within defined project scope. This role requires an engineering mindset focused on designing and executing tests, interpreting results, and contributing to validation strategy-not solely performing predefined test procedures.
** Travel includes routine trips between Plainville, CT (main office) and Boxborough, MA (10%) and regional visits to third-party certification labs (5%), for a total travel expectation below 15%. Candidates local to Boxborough MA will also be considered.
Essential Functions:
  • Own execution of Design Verification Plans & Reports (DVP&R) for assigned projects, coordinating cross-functional inputs and ensuring completion to defined scope, schedule, and requirements.
  • Develop and execute test plans, procedures, and setups for functional, environmental, and reliability validation, including methods such as thermal/humidity cycling, vibration, shock, pressure, and durability/life testing.
  • Perform hands-on testing using standard lab instrumentation, including oscilloscopes, DMMs, power analyzers, DAQ systems, and environmental test equipment.
  • Collect, analyze, and document test data with accuracy and traceability to support engineering decisions and product validation.
  • Contribute to DVP&R development by authoring test sections, defining test conditions, and maintaining traceability between requirements and results.
  • Execute structured, data-driven root cause investigations, including defining test approaches, interpreting results, and ensuring conclusions are supported by data.
  • Contribute to DFMEA activities by identifying potential failure modes and ensuring risks are reflected in validation plans.
  • Identify and communicate potential design risks and performance gaps observed during testing.
  • Support external validation efforts by preparing test plans, samples, and documentation, and coordinating with internal teams and quality/compliance partners.
  • Recommend improvements to test methods, fixtures, and documentation to enhance test efficiency, repeatability, and quality.

Critical Success Factors:
  • Execution Discipline & Technical Rigor - Consistently executes validation activities with accuracy, completeness, and adherence to defined methods, producing reliable and traceable results.
  • Data-Driven Problem Solving - Applies structured, data-driven approaches to troubleshooting and root cause analysis, producing clear findings that support sound engineering decisions.

Education & Experience Required:
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering - Electrical, Mechanical, or Mechatronics. (Equivalent hands-on experience commensurate with a degree is also acceptable).
  • 3-5+ years of experience in testing and validation of electro-mechanical or electronics-based products, with hands-on execution of functional, environmental, and reliability testing (e.g., thermal cycling, vibration, shock, pressure, or durability/life testing).
  • Experience executing test plans and working with lab instrumentation (e.g., oscilloscopes, DMMs, DAQ systems, environmental chambers), with exposure to DVP&R through test definition, execution, and documentation.
  • Experience supporting structured, data-driven root cause investigations using tools such as FMEA, RCCA, 5-Why, or similar methods, with exposure to Design of Experiments (DOE) considered a plus.
  • Familiarity with environmental and validation equipment such as thermal chambers, vibration systems, or durability/life test setups.
  • Exposure to test automation or data analysis tools (e.g., LabVIEW, Python, or similar) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with regulated product environments (e.g., UL, CE, CSA, NSF) or supporting certification-related testing is preferred.
