Software Systems Engineer (Associate or Experienced)

The Boeing Company has an exciting opportunity for a Software Systems Engineer to join the Satellite Communication (SATCOM) Mission Planning Software Engineering team in Colorado Springs, CO.

This position will support the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Satellite Systems Software Engineering organization. Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including; Associate and Experienced Software Engineers.

The Satellite Communication (SATCOM) program is a critical part of the U.S. military's nuclear command, control, and communications (NC3) network, providing nuclear-survivable connectivity. Our team develops software tools and services for advanced satellite and ground systems.

This role offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced development environment using modern, scalable technology and tools. Our team works in an Agile and CI/CD environment with automated testing, vulnerability scanning, and quality scanning capabilities.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develops and maintains requirements, architecture, algorithms, interfaces, and designs for high-performance APIs between front-end and back-end software services

  • Supports software development activities in an Agile environment using DevSecOps methodologies, including integration of completed software components into a fully functional software system

  • Supports the development of critical features and support the full development lifecycle from design through deployment

  • Builds, architects, and consumes APIs and backend services as part of the platform ecosystem, with an emphasis on automation, testing, and security

  • Conducts code reviews to maintain code quality, enforce best practices, and ensure compliance with established standards

  • Supports the creation and translation of design mockups into functional, visually appealing user interfaces using modern front-end frameworks and technologies

  • Advocates for improvements to product quality, security, and performance that positively impact the team and broader organization

  • Works effectively in ambiguous environments and self-direct work as needed

Security Clearance:

This position requires an active U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active) An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret/ SCI Security Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's degree or higher

  • 1+ years' experience with Python

  • 1+ years' experience with Java, JavaScript, or C++

  • 1+ years' experience with TypeScript

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Level 3: 5 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science and 5+ years of related work experience OR Bachelor's Degree and 9+ years of directly related work experience OR 13+ years of related, relevant experience

  • 3+ years of progressively responsible software development experience with modern software development approach for government programs

  • 3+ years of experience with designing and developing intuitive user interfaces featuring real-time, 2D/3D geospatial visualization

  • 3+ years of experience with open-source software development experience

  • 3+ years of experience with fine tuning Kubernetes and the underlying host OS for optimal performance

  • 3+ years of experience in software development for space systems and ground segments, including command and control, mission planning, and data processing

  • 3+ years of experience in the software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, coding, integration, and test

  • 3+ years of experience with database technologies (Postgres, SQL/NoSQL)

  • Understanding of Command and Control (C2) systems, Mission Planning, Ground Systems, real-time applications, and their specific requirements

  • Strong experience designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines in GitLab to automate testing, builds, and deployment workflows using an Agile software development environment
