Job description

The UMB Alternative Investments - Support team provides support to the development of the software used by our Fund Accountants, external Alternative Investment client teams, and Investors to manage the investment portfolio. This robust software allows them competitive advantages within the Alternative Investments industry which continues to evolve and provides exciting opportunities for individuals to learn new skills, administer new tools, and grow their career.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be providing full-stack development support and enhancements for UMB's Alternative Investments web applications including various other applications. You will work closely with the team to design and build enterprise-level solutions. You will look for ways to assist in improving development efficiency and implementing best practices. This is a subset of the overall responsibilities which involves other multiple initiatives as assigned by IT leadership.

This role is hybrid (4 days on-site / 1 day remote) at our Ogden, UT or Kansas City metropolitan locations.

How you'll spend your time:

  • Assist in the design and implementation of cloud-based architecture including influencing the system architecture and platform design for multiple products/verticals.
  • Deliver high-availability services and/or create responsive, performant, and maintainable websites including building scalable solutions in a cloud-based infrastructure using common design patterns and principles.
  • Become a domain expert on the Alternative Investments business and systems.
  • Assist in driving the team's technical strategy and direction including implementation of key coding principles.
  • Provide mentorship to members of the team and help foster a learning environment.

We're excited to talk if you have:

  • At least 7 years of experience in a technical role building cloud-based technologies as a senior-level software engineer OR a bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or similar discipline including at least 5 years of similar industry experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience building enterprise web applications preferably using React, TypeScript.
  • At least 2 years of experience in cloud technologies such as AWS or Azure including experience implementing cloud-based solutions using Serverless (Lambda), Containers, Observability, and Security.
  • In-depth experience using and building REST API's or GraphQL APIs to serve data to web applications.
  • Strong experience with Node.js for back-end development.
  • Experience with relational (PostgreSQL) and non-relational databases (DynamoDB), and comfortable with writing SQL and NoSQL queries.
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD or DevOps.

Bonus Points if you have:

  • Experience building microservices applications.
  • Worked in an event driven architecture and/or with domain driven design.
  • Experience using terraform with GitHub actions.
  • Experience using Gen AI tools for Code Generation and SDLC Processes.

Compensation Ranges:

US Employees in California, Washington DC, New Jersey, and New York:

$100,710 - $157,630

US Employees in Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Massachusetts, Maryland, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas, Washington, and Wisconsin:

$91,950 - $144,320

US Employees in all other states not listed above:

$83,200 - $131,000
