What does an associate editor do?

An Associate Editor is responsible for supporting the editorial process at a publication or media outlet. Their tasks usually include reviewing submissions, editing articles for clarity and accuracy, coordinating with writers and contributors, and helping manage deadlines. Associate Editors often assist in shaping content strategy and may contribute their own writing as well. They work closely with senior editors to ensure the quality and consistency of published materials.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an associate editor?

To excel as an Associate Editor, you need strong writing, editing, and research skills, often backed by a degree in English, journalism, or a related field. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS), style guides (like AP or Chicago), and editing software is typically required. Attention to detail, organization, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for managing deadlines and collaborating with writers. These abilities ensure content accuracy, quality, and timely publication in a fast-paced editorial environment.

What are some common challenges an associate editor might face when balancing multiple projects and deadlines?

Associate Editors often juggle several articles or publications at once, each with its own timeline and set of contributors. A common challenge is prioritizing tasks effectively to meet tight deadlines while maintaining editorial quality and accuracy. This role requires strong organizational skills and clear communication with writers, senior editors, and other team members to ensure everyone is aligned. Developing efficient workflows and being adaptable to sudden changes—such as urgent revisions or shifting editorial calendars—are essential for success in this fast-paced environment.

Job description

Your work days are brighter here.

We're obsessed with making hard work pay off, for our people, our customers, and the world around us. As a Fortune 500 company and a leading AI platform for managing people, money, and agents, we're shaping the future of work so teams can reach their potential and focus on what matters most. The minute you join, you'll feel it. Not just in the products we build, but in how we show up for each other. Our culture is rooted in integrity, empathy, and shared enthusiasm. We're in this together, tackling big challenges with bold ideas and genuine care. We look for curious minds and courageous collaborators who bring sun-drenched optimism and drive. Whether you're building smarter solutions, supporting customers, or creating a space where everyone belongs, you'll do meaningful work with Workmates who've got your back. In return, we'll give you the trust to take risks, the tools to grow, the skills to develop and the support of a company invested in you for the long haul. So, if you want to inspire a brighter work day for everyone, including yourself, you've found a match in Workday, and we hope to be a match for you too.

About the Team

At Workday, our team is on a mission to help organizations find, engage, and hire the right people faster - combining Workday Recruiting, AI-powered capabilities, and a unified HCM platform to transform how enterprises build their workforce. We sit at the heart of one of the most competitive and fast-moving categories in HR technology, and we win by being closer to our customers and our market than anyone else. This is a role for someone who wants to be the connective tissue between our clients, our sellers, and the product we build.

About the Role

This is a high-output design role supporting Paradox's Marketing team. You will be responsible for the visual strategy and execution of everything from sales collateral and product demo videos to mainstage event visuals.
Our team's differentiator is taste. We don't settle for "good enough" on any project, regardless of size. You need the ability to take a technical concept and immediately improve the look and feel through quick, decisive design changes. You will be expected to learn the HR tech industry and our product deeply to represent it accurately and creatively.
Responsibilities

  • Cross-Medium Execution: Move daily between designing graphics, documents, pitch decks, and digital ads.

  • Product Visualization: Partner with Product Marketers to build assets - one-pagers and video walkthroughs - that make technical features easy to understand.

  • Custom Sales Support: Create high-quality collateral for Tier-1 prospects that visualizes their specific use cases and our partnership.

  • Information Synthesis: Process product specs and stakeholder feedback, identify the core message, and surface it visually.

  • Brand Consistency: Ensure all output is on-brand and compliant with Workday's global standards while maintaining a premium aesthetic.

About You

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of professional experience in graphic design, video editing, animation, or a related creative discipline.

  • Demonstrated hands-on proficiency in the Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop).

  • Demonstrated hands-on proficiency in Figma.

  • Hands-on experience editing video using a timeline-based video editing tool (e.g., Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro).

  • Advanced, demonstrated proficiency in presentation tools such as Google Slides and Microsoft PowerPoint.

Other Qualifications

  • Experience creating design assets in a B2B SaaS, enterprise technology, or HR technology environment.

  • Strong sense of typography, layout, and motion design, with a refined visual "taste level."

  • Ability to interpret ambiguous or high-level stakeholder feedback and translate it into a clear, decisive creative direction.

  • Experience producing custom, high-touch sales collateral for large or Tier-1 prospects/accounts.

  • Curiosity about and experience experimenting with new AI-powered design and content-creation tools.

Our Approach to Flexible Work

With Flex Work, we're combining the best of both worlds: in-person time and remote. Our approach enables our teams to deepen connections, maintain a strong community, and do their best work. We know that flexibility can take shape in many ways, so rather than a number of required days in-office each week, we simply spend at least half (50%) of our time each quarter in the office or in the field with our customers, prospects, and partners (depending on role). This means you'll have the freedom to create a flexible schedule that caters to your business, team, and personal needs, while being intentional to make the most of time spent together. Those in our remote "home office" roles also have the opportunity to come together in our offices for important moments that matter.
