About Silverback Concrete

Silverback Concrete is a family-led commercial concrete subcontractor built on grit, accountability, and a client-first mindset. We specialize in mission-critical and data center construction, self-performing structural and slab concrete scopes on some of the most demanding campuses in the country. Our reputation is earned in the field — through quality work, dependable schedule performance, and the kind of ownership that makes general contractors want us back on the next project. As our data center work scales across Virginia and the broader Mid-Atlantic, we are expanding our project management bench with people who want to grow with the company. When we say “We’ve Got Your Back,” we mean it for our clients, our crews, and each other.

Position Summary

The Assistant Project Manager (APM) supports the Project Manager and project leadership team in the day-to-day administration and execution of concrete scopes on our active data center project in South Hill, VA. Based out of our South Hill office, the APM is the backbone of project documentation and coordination — keeping submittals, RFIs, procurement, and quality records moving so the field can stay productive. This is a development role for someone who wants to learn the business from the ground up and grow into a full Project Manager. The APM works closely with field leadership, our QC team, ready-mix and testing partners, and the general contractor to deliver clean, well-documented, on-schedule concrete work.

Core Duties & Responsibilities

The APM partners with the Project Manager to keep the project organized and the paperwork ahead of the work. Primary responsibilities include:

Project administration: Maintain accurate, up-to-date project records in Procore, including drawings, specifications, ASIs, RFIs, submittals, and change documentation.

Submittals & RFIs: Prepare, log, route, and track submittals and RFIs to closure; follow up with the GC, suppliers, and engineers to keep responses on schedule.

Procurement & buyout support: Assist with material procurement and delivery scheduling for concrete, reinforcing steel, embeds, vapor retarder, curing materials, and formwork; track lead times against the pour schedule.

Quality documentation: Work alongside the QC team to compile mix design approvals, pre-placement checklists, cylinder break results, and floor flatness/levelness (FF/FL) reports; maintain the QC record set in Procore.

Cost & billing support: Prepare and process T&M tickets and change order requests, assist with monthly pay applications, and apply correct cost coding to invoices and commitments.

Meetings & communication: Attend GC coordination and OAC meetings, capture and distribute minutes, and communicate proactively with the GC, owner representatives, and trade partners.

Safety support: Assist field leadership with pre-task planning, JHAs/AHAs, and safety compliance documentation; reinforce a culture where production never comes before safety.

Closeout: Help assemble closeout documentation — as-builts, warranties, and final QC records — for a clean, complete project handover.

Expectations

Success in this role is measured less by years of experience and more by ownership, reliability, and the willingness to learn. We expect an APM to:

• Take ownership of assigned tasks and follow them through to completion without needing to be chased.

• Be detail-oriented and disciplined about documentation — in our work, accurate records protect the company and the crew.

• Learn Procore and our processes quickly, and become a reliable resource the PM and field team can lean on.

• Be present and reliable on-site at the South Hill, VA project; travel within the local area as the work requires.

• Communicate early and often — flag problems before they become delays, and never let a question sit.

• Represent Silverback professionally with general contractors, owners, and trade partners at all times.

• Bring a grit-oriented, team-first attitude and a genuine interest in growing into a Project Manager role.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent hands-on construction experience (2+ years).

• Working knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, and general project workflows.

• Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) and the ability to learn Procore quickly.

• Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel to the jobsite.

• OSHA 30-Hour certification — Silverback will provide it at company expense if not already held.

• Authorized to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience on mission-critical, data center, or large commercial concrete projects.

• Hands-on experience with Procore, Bluebeam, and/or digital takeoff software.

• Familiarity with ACI and ASTM concrete standards and FF/FL testing concepts.

• Prior internship or field experience with a concrete self-perform contractor.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

This role is split between an office environment and active construction jobsites. While on-site, the APM must be able to walk uneven terrain, climb stairs and ladders, and remain on their feet for extended periods. The role requires occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds and exposure to outdoor weather conditions, noise, dust, and ongoing construction activity. Personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility vest, and boots) is required at all times on-site. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

Compensation & Benefits

Silverback Concrete offers a competitive compensation package commensurate with experience. The benefits below are representative — confirm against the current company package before posting.

Base Pay

$45,000 – $55,000 annually, depending on experience

Benefits

Health, dental, and vision insurance; paid time off and holidays; professional development support and a clear path to Project Manager. (Confirm against current company package before posting.)
