Senior IT Project Manager

Location: Mechanicsville, VA (Hybrid – Up to 3 Days Onsite/Week)
Position: Contract
Duration: 08/24/2026 – 06/30/2027

Only submit candidates who are local to the Richmond/Mechanicsville, VA area, have an active PMP, documented risk management experience, and meet the required project-size experience.

Job Summary

Seeking a senior IT Project Manager to lead projects within the Project & Product Delivery portfolio. The ideal candidate will have strong Agile project management experience, proven risk management expertise, and experience managing large-scale IT projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead projects through the full lifecycle, including planning, scheduling, resource allocation, risk, scope, cost, and delivery.
  • Manage Agile, SAFe, Waterfall, and Kanban methodologies.
  • Facilitate Sprint Planning, Daily Standups, Retrospectives, Demos, Story Refinement, and Release Planning.
  • Track and communicate project progress, costs, schedules, risks, and project metrics.
  • Partner with Product Owners on backlog management and prioritization.
  • Remove team impediments and promote continuous improvement.
  • Work closely with senior leadership, business teams, vendors, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with VDOT/VITA project management practices.
Required Qualifications
  • Active PMI PMP certification – Mandatory.
  • Documented risk management experience – Mandatory.
  • Experience managing a Commonwealth Category 1 or 2 project valued at $5M+, OR a non-Commonwealth project valued at $10M+ as PM of record.
  • Strong experience with Agile/Scrum, Waterfall, and Kanban methodologies.
  • Strong knowledge of SDLC and IT project delivery.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work onsite in Mechanicsville, VA up to 3 days per week.
Preferred
  • Active Commonwealth PM Certification.
  • Commonwealth/VITA/VDOT project management experience.
  • Commonwealth risk management experience.
  • SAFe experience.
  • Experience managing large enterprise IT projects.
