Job description

We're looking for a Driver Recruiting Coordinator and HR Assistant who genuinely believes that great drivers make great communities. You'll lead our driver recruitment efforts from first conversation to first day behind the wheel, building relationships with prospective drivers and supporting them every step of the way. You'll conduct safety meetings that feel less like policy reviews and more like team huddles - because that's what they are.
This role requires holding a Class B CDL with proper endorsements, so you'll know firsthand what it means to navigate a school bus route and to earn the trust of the families we serve. We provide in-house training if needed.
If you're energized by talking to people, thinking creatively about outreach, and seeing someone go from "I never thought about driving a bus" to thriving on a route, this role is for you.
What You'll Do
  • Lead driver recruitment from first conversation to first day: sourcing candidates, building relationships, and representing Lamers in the community with professionalism and warmth
  • Get out there: attend community events, visit job fairs, partner with local organizations, and find the people who'd be great drivers but haven't found us yet
  • Brainstorm and execute new recruitment strategies: social media, referral programs, community partnerships, or whatever works - and bring fresh ideas to the table
  • Conduct interviews and guide candidates through the hiring process, creating an experience that reflects who we are as a company
  • Assist in HR by building and maintaining driver files, running background checks, and keeping drivers and applicants organized, ensuring every driver meets school bus qualifications and stays current. Conduct safety meetings that feel like team huddles - practical, driver-focused, and worth showing up for
  • Be a resource drivers can count on: answering questions, addressing concerns, and coaching with empathy
  • Drive bus routes or charters as needed, staying connected to the daily experience of our drivers
  • Respond to accidents and incidents with a steady, solutions-focused approach
  • Maintain compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and CSA regulations
  • Participate in weekend duty rotations

Qualifications
  • Proven recruitment experience: you know how to source, attract, and close candidates
  • A natural connector: outgoing, approachable, and genuinely good at representing a company to people who don't know it yet
  • Creative thinker who can generate outreach ideas and follow through on executing them
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with comfort talking to people across all walks of life
  • A people-first approach with empathy, patience, and the ability to coach and support
  • Sharp attention to detail and strong organizational instincts
  • Calm under pressure with sound judgment in difficult situations
  • Comfort with technology and a willingness to explore tools that make recruiting and team management more effective
  • Class B CDL with appropriate endorsements preferred - or genuine willingness to obtain one; in-house training available

Compensation & Benefits
Lamers Bus Lines offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to support the whole employee:
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Company-paid life insurance and dependent life insurance
  • Short-term and long-term disability coverage
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match
  • Paid holidays and paid time off (PTO)
  • Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Health Savings Account (HSA) options
  • Direct deposit payroll
  • Clear pathways for career advancement - Lamers promotes from within
