Department Overview

The Americas Division (โ€œADโ€) was established in the Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank, Limited, New York Branch) (โ€œSMTBNYโ€) to perform corporate functions and supervise U.S. entities. Established under the AD are the โ€œGlobal Banking Unit (โ€œGBUโ€), Americas Divisionโ€ and โ€œGlobal Markets Unit (โ€œGMUโ€), Americas Divisionโ€ which performs business functions. The Credit Investment Management Department (โ€œCIMโ€) is responsible for the booking and administering of (i) leveraged loan assets and (ii) structured product assets including CLOs (note investments and warehousing facilities) and MML Senior Financing through maturity or refinancing in accordance with the Branchโ€™s lending policy.


Your Position Overview:

This is a junior credit analyst position to support the bankโ€™s U.S. leveraged loans investment platform. The junior credit analyst will work with portfolio managers, senior credit analysts and closing staff in the analysis, monitoring, management, and closing of leveraged loan transactions. The ideal candidate should be self-motivated with strong interest in investment management and fundamental analysis, has solid foundation in finance and accounting, able to handle multiple assignments and deadlines in a detailed-oriented and team-based environment.


Your Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Supports Senior Credit Analyst and/or Credit Analyst with primary coverage responsibility in (i) the review of potential assets in assigned products/industries and (ii) the preparation of credit applications and reports.
  2. Ensures compliance with applicable investment guidelines and directives from Head Office and Branch Management.
  3. Monitors assigned assets/products/industries to maintain credit quality through asset/product/industry appropriate measures, i.e., financial analysis and trends, cross-sectional analysis, cashflow analysis and market value/liquidity.
  4. Coordinates with internal and third parties to effect bookings, amendments and funding as assigned.
  5. Responsible for all Head Office and Branch monitoring and reporting requirements, including rating review, business review of documentation, regulatory review, booking and financial and portfolio review requirements, with support from Operations Analyst as designated.
  6. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.



Your Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in Finance or Economics or equivalent with 2+ years related experience.
  2. Solid knowledge of corporate finance and accounting princples.
  3. Good knowledge of commonly used research resources, including Bloomberg, EDGAR, and rating agencies.
  4. Good basic knowledge of loan markets.
  5. Proficient in Microsoft 365 (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and Access) and some modeling capabilities.
  6. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  7. Comfortable working under a regulated banking environment with strict investment guideline and reporting requirement.
