Job description

Production Manager – Millwork

Location: Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania
Employment Type: Full-time

About Commercial Stainless

Commercial Stainless is an established custom manufacturer serving the commercial foodservice industry throughout the United States. We design, manufacture, and install custom stainless-steel equipment, serving counters, architectural millwork, and solid-surface products.

Our work is highly customized and requires close coordination among project management, engineering, drafting, purchasing, production, and installation. We value craftsmanship, accountability, teamwork, continuous improvement, and doing what we say we will do.

Position Summary

Commercial Stainless is seeking an experienced and accountable Production Manager – Millwork to lead our custom millwork department.

The Production Manager – Millwork is responsible for the department’s safety, quality, productivity, scheduling, employee performance, and on-time completion of work. This individual will translate the company’s production plan into clear daily priorities, ensure employees have what they need to succeed, and hold the team accountable for producing quality work efficiently.

This is a hands-on leadership position that requires a regular presence on the production floor. However, the manager’s primary responsibility is not to personally complete the department’s work. Success means building a capable team, establishing consistent processes, identifying problems early, and producing dependable results through others.

Primary Responsibilities

The Production Manager – Millwork will:

  • Lead the daily operation of the custom millwork department.
  • Translate the production schedule into clear weekly and daily priorities.
  • Assign work based on project requirements, employee capabilities, available materials, and deadlines.
  • Monitor progress throughout the day and address issues before they affect project schedules.
  • Maintain focus on starting, completing, and moving projects through production without unnecessary interruption.
  • Coordinate priorities and project requirements with operations, project management, drafting, purchasing, solid surface, metal fabrication, and installation.
  • Review shop drawings, specifications, and production requirements before work begins.
  • Confirm that drawings, materials, equipment, hardware, and information are available when needed.
  • Ensure products meet established standards for dimensions, construction, fit, finish, and appearance.
  • Identify the causes of errors, rework, delays, and inefficiencies and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop consistent processes, work standards, and quality-control practices.
  • Use the company’s ERP system and other tools to maintain accurate production information.
  • Monitor labor performance, capacity, workflow, and departmental productivity.
  • Communicate schedule risks, staffing concerns, material shortages, and other problems early.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and professional work environment.
  • Ensure equipment is used correctly, maintained appropriately, and available for production.
  • Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, cross-training, and evaluating millwork employees.
  • Set clear expectations and provide employees with timely, direct feedback.
  • Address performance, attendance, quality, conduct, and accountability issues consistently.
  • Develop employees who demonstrate the ability and desire to take on greater responsibility.
  • Participate in management meetings, production planning, and continuous-improvement initiatives.

Leadership Expectations

A successful Production Manager – Millwork will:

  • Take full ownership of the department’s results.
  • Establish clear expectations and consistently follow up on them.
  • Create urgency and accountability without damaging morale.
  • Make timely decisions within their level of authority.
  • Bring significant problems forward with facts, options, and a recommended solution.
  • Remain calm and decisive when schedules, priorities, or job requirements change.
  • Spend enough time on the production floor to understand what is actually happening.
  • Coach employees and build capability rather than becoming the solution to every problem.
  • Recognize strong performance and address unacceptable performance promptly.
  • Develop employees and identify potential future lead people.
  • Work effectively with other departments and consider the needs of the entire company.
  • Support a culture of safety, quality, respect, and continuous improvement.
  • Consistently do what they say they will do.

Qualifications

  • Experience leading employees in commercial millwork, cabinetmaking, woodworking, manufacturing, or a related production environment.
  • Strong knowledge of millwork construction, materials, hardware, fabrication methods, and quality standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret shop drawings, dimensions, specifications, and production documents.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan work, establish priorities, and meet production deadlines.
  • Experience holding employees accountable and addressing performance issues directly.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
  • Clear and professional verbal and written communication.
  • Comfortable using ERP systems, production software, email, and Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to analyze basic production information and use it to improve performance.
  • Experience with automated woodworking equipment, CNC machinery, or millwork software is helpful.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical, business, or leadership education is preferred.

Measures of Success

The Production Manager – Millwork will be evaluated based on:

  • On-time completion of scheduled work.
  • Product quality and reduction of errors and rework.
  • Labor productivity and effective use of departmental capacity.
  • Safety performance and compliance.
  • Accuracy and timeliness of ERP and production information.
  • Organization, cleanliness, and care of equipment.
  • Employee attendance, accountability, development, and retention.
  • Communication and cooperation with other departments.
  • Ability to identify problems early and implement lasting solutions.
  • Overall dependability and predictability of the millwork department.

Physical and Work Requirements

  • Ability to spend significant time on an active manufacturing floor.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and inspect work throughout the department.
  • Ability to work around woodworking machinery, dust, noise, adhesives, and normal manufacturing conditions.
  • Ability to lift or move materials safely when necessary, with assistance when appropriate.
  • Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment.

Future Opportunity

The Production Manager – Millwork will have a meaningful opportunity to shape the department’s employees, systems, processes, and performance. This role provides broad exposure to production planning, project management, purchasing, engineering, financial performance, and company leadership.

A manager who builds a strong team, develops others, improves departmental performance, and demonstrates the ability to lead beyond the millwork department may have opportunities for broader operational leadership as Commercial Stainless continues to develop and grow.

Commercial Stainless is an equal opportunity employer. Employment decisions are based on qualifications, performance, and business needs without regard to legally protected characteristics.
