Job description

The Millwork Engineer takes finalized millwork shop drawings and creates manufacturing documents and programs for production. Engineers are required to create machine code from both the standard library and from the creation of custom products. This requires knowledge of materials used in fabrication along with their specifications in order to create fully machined nest drawings for a CNC router. Additionally, Engineers need to have the ability to develop 2D AutoCAD shop drawings from architectural and interior design drawings for submittal and eventually construction.
**THIS POSTIONS REQUIRES PROFICIENCY IN MICROVELLUM DESIGN SOFTWARE**
Job Duties/Responsibilities
  • Create machinery (CNC & Saw) programs and any other relevant construction documents for custom millwork and casework using AutoCAD, Microvellum, and SolidWorks/SWOOD software.
  • Ensure "As-Built drawings" matches construction plan.
  • Develop detailed millwork design plans, considering both aesthetic and functional aspects. Understanding of the means and methods for the engineering, fabrication, finishing and installation of architectural woodwork, casework, and millwork.
  • Collaborate with project managers to ensure design intent and project goals are met.
  • Compile material take-offs for ordering and shop production
  • Maintain a high standard of accuracy and attention to detail to guarantee the precision of all cut-lists and millwork elements.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, new materials, and emerging technologies in millwork to continuously improve processes and stay competitive in the market.
  • Ensure project schedules, deadlines, and budgets are met.
  • Communicate with the manufacturing team to ensure that production requirements are clearly understood.
  • Demonstrate the ability to independently solve complex millwork-related challenges and make informed decisions to keep projects on track.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the company's engineering standards.
  • And other duties / responsibilities as assigned based on the needs of the company.

Required Skills/Abilities
  • Ability to read and comprehend architectural drawings and technical specifications
  • Proficiency in design software such as Microvellum, SolidWorks/SWOOD, and AutoCAD
  • Demonstrated experience with CNC machinery
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
  • Possess strong written and verbal skills and the ability to work and communicate effectively in a high volume, fast-paced environment
  • Must demonstrate skills and be able to work as a team and cooperate with the staff and production personnel

Education and Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in millwork engineering, preferably in the manufacturing industry or combination of a relevant degree and minimum of 3 years of experience
  • Extensive knowledge of cabinetry, furniture, and custom millwork
  • Strong understanding of AWI standards and guidelines
  • Experience with CNC manufacturing
