General Summary

Engage@ EMU cultivates and creates community and University initiatives, programs, and partnerships mostly aligned with academic programs. Engage services all University colleges, academic departments, and programs and serves as a liaison to several community organizations and local municipalities.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

This graduate assistant will serve as a project coordinator for some of EMU's key community programs as well as other duties as assigned.
This graduate assistant will coordinate communications between internal and external entities for events or programs they are working on, create agendas, track to-do items, and coordinate operations of specific programs.
This graduate assistant will support or coordinate the following programs and initiatives:

  • EMU Testing & Certification Center-provides proctored exams to the students and the public
  • Eagle Engage Corps-reenrollment and debt forgiveness initiative for previously enrolled EMU students
  • Special Institutional Projects and Programs- including the We are Here initiative, the University Accreditation process, the University Strategic Plan project, SOAR, Explore Ypsi and the United Way Workplace Campaign
  • Other programs as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current graduate student
  • Independent, motivated, self-starter looking for a high-level of responsibility and value within an organization
  • Strong writing/editing/communication and technology skills
  • Resourcefulness
  • Professionalism, ability to communicate in and with various communities including: university administration, elected officials, faculty, students, and community members

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in Community Engagement, Management, Communication, Arts Management/Administration and/or Non-Profit programming is ideal
  • Graphic Design Skills or familiarity with design software (e.g., Adobe or Canva) is ideal
  • Familiarity of Washtenaw County and, specifically, Ypsilanti
  • Familiarity and/or experience with Google products (Drive, Sheets, Google Docs, etc.), form software (e.g., Jotform), Sling, Slack, and scheduling software is a plus
