Job description

The Division of Medical Genetics and Genomics at Albany Medical College is seeking a Division Chief to lead and grow a respected and well-established genetics program. This is a strong opportunity for career advancement and leadership within an academic medical center known for clinical excellence, education, and collaborative care.

About the Role

The Division Chief will oversee the strategic, clinical, educational, and research missions of the Division. The position works closely with faculty and specialists in the Department of Pediatrics and Department of OB/GYN - Maternal-Fetal Medicine to provide integrated genetics services across the lifespan.

Current Team

The Division includes:

  • A clinical geneticist/cytogeneticist (current chief, continuing in a remote capacity)
  • A Medical Biochemical Geneticist (Metabolic Disorders)
  • Four Genetic Counselors
  • A Genetic Nurse Practitioner
  • A Genetic Physician Assistant
  • A Genetics Registered Nurse
  • A Dietitian

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care across a range of services, including:
    • General Genetics/Dysmorphology (adult and pediatric)
    • Prenatal and Cancer Genetics
    • Pharmacogenetics
    • Inborn Errors of Metabolism
    • Newborn Screening Follow-Up
  • Lead and implement strategic goals, clinical programs, and protocols
  • Represent the Division at department and institutional leadership forums
  • Support best practices in:
    • Clinical genetics and counseling
    • Diagnostic interpretation
    • Genomic medicine and emerging technologies
  • Foster collaboration with subspecialties such as neonatology, cardiology, neurology, and oncology
