Job description

We are currently recruiting for a Controller in the Cedar Rapids, IA area (Hybrid schedule).  The Controller will oversee the company’s accounting operations, including preparing periodic financial reports, maintaining accurate accounting records, and managing controls and budgets that reduce risk, improve the accuracy of financial reporting, managing accounting / finance team and ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles. 120K – 130K Base + Bonus + Benefits Package

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and coordinate all accounting functions, including payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, membership accounting, general accounting, and cost accounting.
  • Evaluate accounting operations, recommend and implement improvements and new processes.
  • Develop, monitor, and enforce accounting policies and procedures.
  • Establish, monitor, and enforce internal controls that safeguard company assets and support accurate, timely financial reporting.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of regulatory filings, tax planning & compliance.
  • Oversee the collection and consolidation of financial data needed to accurately report consolidated business results.
  • Plan, organize, and manage the year-end close process with external auditors, including financial and benefit plan audits.
  • Prepare financial statements, including balance sheets and cash flow statements, and develop and monitor performance metrics.
  • Lead planning, budgeting, and expenditure approval.
  • Evaluate accounting software and supporting databases as needed.
  • Demonstrate the ability to coach and mentor staff to strengthen capabilities and ensure financial transactions are reported accurately and on time.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain qualified accounting staff and build a structure that supports departmental goals.
  • Manage relationships with banks, lessors, insurers, and benefit administrators to support efficient day-to-day back-office operations.
  • Provide leadership with financial information that supports decision-making.
  • Support the development and execution of short- and long-term goals, objectives, and plans for the finance team with the CFO.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or a related field from an accredited four-year college or university, plus 8–10 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A master’s degree and CPA or CMA certification are preferred.
  • Requires advanced Microsoft Excel skills and basic proficiency in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint. Experience with Tier 2 or higher ERP systems and strong data management knowledge is required. Familiarity with database software and other business systems, including enterprise content management and HR/payroll platforms, is also preferred.
