Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and dynamic individual to join our team as an Assignment Editor at Noticias Telemundo. The candidate must identify newsworthy stories and assist in the production of daily packages. The assignment editor supports reporters in setting up interviews and making contacts for news stories. The candidate must have a strong editorial background and be able to work in a fast paced, deadline driven environment with the willingness to work weekends, late night, and early morning shifts. The candidate must have experience working across multiple platforms, including broadcast, streaming and digital.

This is a project/limited term position, unless otherwise amended or terminated as deliverables within this project are completed.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and assign news stories to reporters and producers, ensuring timely and effective coverage of daily events.
  • Monitor newswires, social media, and other sources to identify and assess emerging story opportunities.
  • Collaborate with reporters and producers to develop compelling story ideas and angles.
  • Ensure content is accurate, balanced, and adheres to editorial standards.
  • Organize and facilitate interviews for current and upcoming stories.
  • Stay informed on current events and react quickly to breaking news.
  • Exercise sound editorial judgment and ensure high-quality journalism.
  • Partner with newsroom and production teams for seamless operations.
  • Conduct in-depth research to support investigative and in-depth stories.
  • Leverage social media and digital platforms to identify trends and enhance story development.
  • Work closely with management to align coverage with the editorial vision and goals.
  • Available to work weekends, early mornings, nights and holidays.
Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, Communications, or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 3 years of news writing experience
  • Must be fully fluent in English and Spanish (both written and verbal)
  • Minimum 1 year of working experience with iNews
