Job description

CWM is seeking Experienced Asphalt Rakers to join our team. As a key member of the asphalt paving crew, the Asphalt Raker's primary responsibility is to use a lute rake to smooth asphalt joints and perform handwork in areas that the paving machine cannot reach. This position requires a proactive, hands-on approach, with an emphasis on safety, quality, and effective teamwork.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Asphalt Handling: Use the lute rake to straighten asphalt joints and perform handwork on areas that the paving machine is unable to reach.
  • Tool Maintenance: Clean and maintain tools and equipment regularly, ensuring they remain in optimal working condition.
  • Job Site Support: Assist with the general operations of the job site, including flagging traffic, setting up and maintaining erosion control measures, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
  • Material Handling: Load and unload materials such as asphalt, dirt, gravel, and other construction materials. Shovel and transport materials as needed throughout the site.
  • Traffic Control: Set up and maintain traffic control measures to ensure safe and efficient traffic flow around work zones.
  • Equipment Operation: Operate a variety of equipment such as rollers, power brooms, tampers, and skid steer loaders, or any other equipment you are qualified to operate.
  • Vehicle Operation: May be required to drive company vehicles, including pick-up trucks, flatbeds, and water trucks, to transport materials and equipment.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand, walk, stoop, and bend for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to climb equipment ladders to access the operator's seat.
  • Ability to lift materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding environments and in varying weather conditions.

Qualifications:
  • Proven experience as an Asphalt Raker or in a similar role in the paving industry.
  • Strong knowledge of asphalt paving techniques and equipment.
  • Ability to operate various types of construction equipment.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team.
  • Strong commitment to safety and adherence to job site safety protocols.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as required by project needs.
