JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary:

The Asphalt Luteman assists with the application of asphalt on highway, roadways, and parking lots.


Duties and Responsibilities:

    Distribute and take asphalt material used in construction, repair, and resurfacing,
    Raking, sweeping, and lining out the road, as well as working alongside the tractor, mill, paver, and the screed,
    Match and finish freshly made asphalt paving joints,
    Finish surfaces by smoothing and tamping asphalt material to the proper grade and thickness to properly adhere material to road surface,
    Prepare road surfaces for hot asphalt material,
    Understand and execute paving procedures while following instructions to meet the standards of the project,
    Repair utility cuts by removing temporary material and replacing with permanent hot asphalt material,
    Evens and adjusts surface irregularities, restores surface finish, spreads asphalt to proper grade and finishes before compaction,
    Assist with traffic control, barricades, cones, etc.,
    Must wear proper attire at all times including PPE,
    May be required to work extended hours including evenings, nights, and weekends,
    Additional duties as assigned.


    Job Requirements:
    One or more years of asphalt raking experience preferred,
    High School diploma, GED or equivalent,
    Valid unrestricted driver's license with a good driving history preferred,
    Must be a reliable/trustworthy team player,
    Maintain good attendance and safety record,
    Knowledge of the paving process and willingness to learn multiple tasks of the paving operation,
    Ability to follow the supervisor and other crewmembers,
    Must be able to successfully pass a background and drug screening.


    Working Conditions:
    Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds continuously throughout the workday,
    Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, squat, and twist, throughout the workday,
    This includes frequently walking on sloped ground and slippery and uneven surfaces,
    This position requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time and the constant use of hands and arms,
    This job requires the ability to see, whether naturally or with vision correction tools (e.g., glasses, contact lenses),
    Performing strenuous work for extended periods in varying temperatures, humidity, wind, and other inclement weather conditions,
    Work may be performed in environments with exposure to extremely hot materials, fuel, fumes, vapors, dust, grease and oils, as well as loud and/or constant noise and moving equipment.


    *Note: This position is considered Safety-Sensitive, and therefore subject to various schedule and unscheduled screenings for controlled substances.
