Asphalt Raker


Position Overview

The Asphalt Raker is responsible for distributing, leveling, and finishing asphalt behind the paver to ensure proper depth, grade, and surface quality. This position is essential to achieving a smooth, uniform finished product.

Key Responsibilities

  • Rake, shovel, and lute asphalt to maintain proper grade and thickness
  • Work directly behind the paver to correct imperfections and ensure smooth transitions
  • Assist with handwork around edges, structures, curbs, and tight areas
  • Check and maintain proper slope, drainage, and joint alignment
  • Communicate with paver operator, roller operators, and foreman to maintain workflow
  • Remove excess material and fill low spots as needed
  • Perform general labor duties including cleanup, sweeping, and site prep
  • Follow all safety procedures and wear required PPE

Qualifications

  • Previous asphalt or construction experience preferred
  • Knowledge of asphalt paving techniques and hand tools (rakes, lutes, shovels)
  • Ability to follow grade stakes and directions from supervisors
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
