Job description

Tasting Room Associate About Michigan by the Bottle Tasting Room

Michigan by the Bottle Tasting Room is where Michigan wine, genuine hospitality and community come together. Across our tasting rooms in Auburn Hills, Lake Orion, Royal Oak and Shelby Township, we proudly feature wines from multiple boutique Michigan wineries—all under one roof.

Guests visit us to explore wine flights, enjoy thoughtfully selected food, attend unique events and connect with others. Our team brings those experiences to life through warm, knowledgeable and engaging hospitality.

The Role

Our Tasting Room Associates are the welcoming, knowledgeable faces of Michigan by the Bottle. You’ll help guests discover Michigan wine, make thoughtful recommendations and create an experience that makes them want to return.

This is an active, hands-on hospitality and sales role. You’ll serve wine and food, share winery and wine stories, recommend bottles, introduce guests to Mitten Club membership and help keep the tasting room running smoothly.

Advanced wine knowledge is not required—we can teach you about wine. We’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys people, takes pride in providing great service and is comfortable making recommendations and encouraging sales.

What You’ll Do
  • Welcome guests warmly and create a friendly, inclusive atmosphere
  • Guide guests through wine flights, glasses, food offerings and retail selections
  • Learn and share the stories behind our Michigan winery partners and their wines
  • Ask thoughtful questions and make recommendations based on each guest’s preferences
  • Encourage bottle, food, merchandise and Mitten Club membership sales through genuine, conversational hospitality
  • Accurately process cash and electronic payments using our point-of-sale system
  • Prepare and serve food according to established handling and presentation standards
  • Maintain a clean, organized and inviting tasting room, including tables, service areas and restrooms
  • Follow responsible alcohol-service procedures, including checking identification and recognizing when service should be limited or refused
  • Assist with special events, private tastings, workshops and promotions
  • Support teammates and contribute wherever needed during busy shifts
What We’re Looking For Must-Haves
  • A warm, outgoing personality and strong communication skills
  • A genuine interest in hospitality, people and Michigan wine
  • Comfort recommending products and contributing to sales goals
  • Dependability, attention to detail and a team-oriented attitude
  • Ability to multitask and remain composed in a lively environment
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends and some holidays
  • Willingness to work at multiple MBTB locations as needed
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 40 pounds
  • Must meet Michigan’s legal requirements for serving alcohol
Even Better If You Have
  • Previous hospitality, serving, retail or customer-service experience
  • Experience with suggestive selling or membership programs
  • Familiarity with Michigan wine or the local food and beverage scene
  • An interest in continuing wine education
  • WSET, sommelier or similar training—although certification is not required
Why Join MBTB?
  • A fun, welcoming and supportive team environment
  • Hands-on wine education and ongoing training
  • Opportunities to taste and learn about wines from across Michigan
  • Competitive hourly wage plus tips
  • Employee discounts
  • Opportunities to grow into Shift Supervisor, Store Lead or other leadership roles

Job type: Full-time and part-time positions available
Primary hiring locations: Auburn Hills and Lake Orion
Schedule: Evening and weekend availability is required
