Job description

Primary Function

The primary function of a Purchasing Assistant is to process AIH purchase orders, assist in sourcing activities, and help with order follow-up. 

Reports to

  • Purchasing Manager

Qualifications

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to explore new products, digest information and construct rational decisions
  • Team player with excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to think proactively, problem solve and multi-task in a fast paced office environment
  • Ability to pay attention to details and follow through on commitments
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Passion and alignment with AIH quality policy, vision, values and operating principals

Principal Duties

  • Receive and process quotes or direct orders from sales personnel
  • Process orders per AIH work instructions
  • Ensures that all purchasing activities are in accordance with core processes and AS9100
  • Expedite orders when necessary
  • Verify item quality requirements
  • Work with vendors regularly to discuss availability, quality, etc.
  • Review approved vendor requirements
  • Work with Receiving and Sales Departments to rectify short-shipments
  • Work with Quality Department regarding quality issues
  • Send and process Vendor Surveys to new suppliers
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned

The Purchasing Assistant will be evaluated by their commitment and ability to:

  • Follow company processes and procedures
  • Present and implement recommendations to improve company/department performance
  • Demonstrate team spirit a willingness to help and to act, at all times, in the best interest of AIH
  • Meet and exceed customer, coworker and vendor expectations
  • Efficiently and accurately process orders
  • Seek out, evaluate and select the best vendors for AIH and our customers
  • Provide suppliers and coworkers with prompt, friendly and knowledgeable responses at all points of contact (phone, email, fax, etc.)

For over 40 years, AIH has dedicated itself to providing the aerospace, electronics, communication, and defense industries with the highest level of service. AIH supports domestic and international customers from our facility in Chandler, Arizona.

All products received and shipped are inspected by highly trained personnel. Major O.E.M.s rely on us to be their source delegated supplier, negating the need for secondary inspection at their facility.
AIH maintains a large and diverse supplier base in order to provide a variety of products ranging from standard commercial and mil-spec fasteners to custom products manufactured to print specifications.
