Insurance Agency Accountant - Independent Insurance Agency - Base Salary to 95k/year - Ashburn, VA

  • Our client, a growing independent insurance agency in the Ashburn, VA area, has an immediate need for an Insurance Agency Accountant to join their team. This multi-line agency provides Commercial Lines, Personal Lines, Employee Benefits, Auto, and Home insurance solutions.
  • This role will oversee day-to-day accounting operations and provide leadership to a small accounting team. The position offers the opportunity to work within a collaborative, family-oriented agency environment with long-term growth potential.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily accounting operations within an independent insurance agency environment
  • Perform general ledger reconciliations, journal entries, account analysis, and financial reporting
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including balance sheet reconciliations and financial statement preparation
  • Support forecasting, auditing, tax preparation, and regulatory reporting activities
  • Monitor Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, cash flow activity, and banking relationships
  • Coordinate with external auditors during annual audit processes
  • Develop and maintain accounting procedures and operational controls to support compliance and reporting accuracy
  • Supervise and support a team of three accounting associates
  • Collaborate with agency leadership and internal departments to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
  • Utilize Applied Epic or similar insurance agency management systems for accounting and reporting functions

Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of accounting or financial experience within the insurance industry
  • Prior accounting experience within an independent insurance agency, brokerage, or multi-carrier insurance environment
  • Experience overseeing or leading accounting staff
  • Strong knowledge of general ledger reconciliations, financial reporting, month-end close, and accounting procedures
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite
  • Experience utilizing Applied Epic or a similar Agency Management System (AMS)

Compensation:

  • Base salary in the 75k โ€“ 95k/year range plus bonus opportunity
