Job description

About the Team
OpenAI Finance ensures the organization is positioned for long-term success as we pursue our mission.
The Order to Cash (OTC) team oversees the complete flow of commercial transactions from order intake and provisioning through billing, collections, and cash application - ensuring accuracy, compliance, and operational excellence in support of OpenAI's mission to ensure artificial general intelligence benefits all of humanity.
About the Role
We are looking for a strategic and hands-on operator to help build and scale the operational backbone supporting OpenAI's Ads monetization business. This role will own operational readiness and execution across the Ads Order-to-Cash lifecycle, ensuring scalable billing operations, financial accuracy, and strong operational controls.
As Ads offerings and monetization capabilities continue to evolve, you will partner across Product, Engineering, Revenue Systems, Finance, GTM, Deal Desk, and Legal to operationalize new monetization capabilities while ensuring billing integrity, operational excellence, and audit readiness.
You'll combine operational leadership, process design, systems thinking, and automation to build scalable processes that support one of OpenAI's fastest-growing revenue streams.
This role is based in San Francisco, CA. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days per week in the office and offer relocation assistance.
In this role, you will:
  • Own operational readiness for new Ads monetization launches, including testing, billing validation, reconciliation, go-live execution, and post-launch hypercare.
  • Design and scale operational processes supporting Ads billing, campaign monetization, credits, coupons, pricing changes, adjustments, and invoice generation.
  • Partner closely with Ads Product, Engineering, Revenue Systems, GTM, Deal Desk, Finance, and Legal to operationalize new monetization capabilities while ensuring downstream billing and revenue processes remain accurate.
  • Build scalable operational workflows supporting high-volume Ads transactions while maintaining strong financial controls and operational excellence.
  • Scale execution through BPO and global operations teams by developing SOPs, playbooks, training programs, quality frameworks, and governance models.
  • Drive automation and AI-enabled workflows that reduce manual work, improve operational efficiency, detect billing anomalies, and proactively identify revenue-impacting issues.
  • Establish operational controls, approval frameworks, audit trails, and segregation of duties supporting SOX compliance and financial reporting requirements.
  • Ensure billing completeness and financial accuracy during month-end close through reconciliations across campaign delivery, pricing, usage, invoicing, credits, and revenue systems.
  • Partner with Analytics and Engineering to build KPIs and operational dashboards measuring billing accuracy, invoice quality, automation rates, operational throughput, customer escalations, and launch readiness.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities across the Ads Order-to-Cash lifecycle and help define the long-term operating model supporting global scale.
  • Develop operational documentation, runbooks, enablement materials, and governance processes that enable consistent execution as the Ads business continues to grow.

You might thrive in this role if you have:
  • 7+ years of experience in Ads Operations, Monetization Operations, Billing Operations, Revenue Operations, or Order-to-Cash within a high-growth technology company.
  • Experience supporting digital advertising platforms, marketplace businesses, usage-based billing, or other high-volume transaction environments.
  • Strong understanding of Ads monetization models including CPM, CPC, CPA, credits, promotional programs, discounts, and usage-based pricing.
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise business systems such as Salesforce, CPQ, Oracle Fusion, NetSuite, Stripe, Metronome, or similar billing and ERP platforms.
  • Experience partnering closely with Product and Engineering teams to operationalize new monetization capabilities and system launches.
  • Deep understanding of operational controls, reconciliations, month-end close, audit readiness, and SOX compliance.
  • Demonstrated success leading automation initiatives and leveraging AI to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual work.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate complex billing and monetization issues across multiple systems.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills with experience driving alignment across Product, Engineering, Finance, Revenue, and GTM organizations.
  • Experience building scalable global operating models leveraging BPO, offshore teams, and standardized operational processes.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-moving environment with evolving products, changing priorities, and significant ambiguity.
