Payroll Consultant

Location: Stamford, CT (100% remote opportunity - must be US-based and must be able to work EST)
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9:00 AM-5:00 PM EST
Compensation: $50-60/hour DOE

About the Opportunity

Our client is seeking an experienced Payroll Consultant to provide maternity leave coverage for a 4-6 month assignment. This role will be responsible for managing the full payroll cycle for a workforce of 300+ employees, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing while supporting benefits administration activities. This position is ideal for a hands-on payroll professional with deep expertise in ADP Vantage and experience managing multi-state payroll operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing for 300+ employees using ADP Vantage.
  • Ensure payroll is processed accurately, on time, and in compliance with company policies and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Review, audit, and validate payroll data, including employee records, timekeeping information, deductions, tax withholdings, and payroll adjustments.
  • Research and resolve payroll discrepancies, employee inquiries, and payroll-related issues.
  • Maintain payroll records and ensure proper documentation, controls, and audit readiness.
  • Support benefits administration activities and respond to employee benefits inquiries.
  • Partner closely with HR and internal stakeholders on payroll and benefits matters.
  • Complete a thorough knowledge transfer and training process with the current Payroll & Benefits Manager.
  • Follow established payroll and benefits processes while ensuring operational continuity throughout the leave coverage period.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for day-to-day payroll operations during the assignment.
Qualifications
  • Required: Strong, hands-on experience with ADP Vantage. Experience with other ADP platforms alone will not be sufficient.
  • Proven experience independently managing end-to-end multi-state payroll for a mid-sized or large employee population, ideally 300+ employees.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll laws, compliance requirements, payroll controls, and best practices.
  • Experience researching and resolving complex payroll issues.
  • Benefits administration experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Preferred Background
  • Experience supporting both payroll and employee benefits administration.
  • Prior experience providing payroll coverage during leaves of absence, transitions, or interim assignments.
  • Ability to quickly learn existing processes and maintain seamless payroll operations.
