What is an administrative tech?

Administrative Techs, or Administrative Technicians, are professionals who provide technical and clerical support within an organization. Their responsibilities often include managing records, preparing reports, handling correspondence, and utilizing office software and technology to streamline administrative processes. They play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of office functions by supporting managers and other staff with both routine and specialized tasks. Administrative Techs may also assist with data entry, scheduling, and troubleshooting basic technical issues related to office equipment or software.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an administrative tech, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Administrative Tech, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in office procedures, often supported by an associate degree or relevant certifications. Familiarity with office software suites like Microsoft Office, data entry systems, and sometimes specialized databases is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving abilities, and adaptability help an Administrative Tech excel in supporting teams and managing multiple tasks. These skills ensure the smooth operation of office functions, efficient workflow, and effective support for staff and management.

What are some common challenges faced by administrative techs, and how can they be managed?

Administrative Techs often juggle multiple tasks such as data entry, scheduling, and technical support, which can make prioritizing work a challenge. Balancing urgent requests while maintaining accuracy and meeting deadlines requires strong organizational skills and adaptability. Collaborating effectively with colleagues and staying updated on new software tools can help manage workload and boost efficiency. Regular communication with supervisors about priorities and deadlines also ensures smoother workflow and reduces stress.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with personnel at all levels, as well as external visitors and stakeholders
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to compose clear, professional correspondence and documentation
  • Demonstrated discretion, sound judgment, and the ability to handle sensitive information appropriately
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage time effectively, and work independently with minimal supervision
  • Fluency with Microsoft Windows and the full Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Teams)
  • Must be eligible to qualify for a Common Access Card issuance and associated IT system access
  • Must comply with all DoD, DoN, NAMRU-D, cybersecurity, and OPSEC requirements and policies

  • Equivalent combination of education and directly relevant administrative experience will be considered

Desired Attributes:
