Job description

El Futuro is a nationally recognized nonprofit organization and leading provider of behavioral mental health treatment and support services. We operate clinics across central North Carolina, specializing in services for Spanish-speaking individuals. Our mission is to nurture stronger familias to live out their dreams.
El Futuro is currently hiring a full-time Bilingual Psychiatric Physician Assistant (PA) to provide culturally responsive psychiatric services for children, adolescents, and adults in an outpatient setting. This position will play an important role in expanding access to psychiatric care with a particular emphasis on supporting El Futuro's ADHD program while also helping provide care to patients with a range of mild to moderate psychiatric needs.
The Psychiatric PA will work as part of a multidisciplinary team that includes psychiatrists, therapists, ADHD specialists, parent trainers, and care coordination staff. They will provide medication management, psychoeducation, ADHD coaching, parent support, and systems collaboration while practicing under physician supervision.
El Futuro provides a collaborative work environment with strong administrative and clinical support, allowing providers to focus on high-quality patient care and healthy work-life balance.
The annual salary for this position starts at $85,000.00 and is based on experience. El Futuro provides employer paid medical, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability; 403B matching; generous PTO and paid holidays; paid family medical leave; paid parental leave; and stipend and paid time off for professional development.
This position works 37.5 hours per week, primarily in-person, in the Durham and Siler City clinics; working in-person a minimum of 4 days per week and ensuring 5 hours per week of patient appointments are scheduled after 4:00pm and must be available for Friday morning meetings 9:00-11:00am (mostly virtual). The typical weekly schedule includes late afternoons/evenings and may include occasional work on weekends for special events several times a year.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Psychiatric Physician Assistant performs a wide range of functions including but not limited to the following.
Clinical Care
  • Conduct psychiatric medication follow-up appointments for child, adolescent, and adult patients.
  • Evaluate and monitor psychiatric symptoms, treatment progress, medication response, and side effects.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans under physician supervision.
  • Provide psychoeducation to patients and families regarding diagnoses and treatment recommendations.
  • Coordinate care with therapists, schools, pediatricians, and community systems.
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation within the electronic medical record.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary case consultation and treatment planning.

ADHD Program
  • Provide ongoing care to patients with ADHD after diagnostic evaluation and treatment planning has been completed by a psychiatrist.
  • Provide ADHD skills coaching and psychoeducation.
  • Provide parent behavior coaching and support.
  • Collaborate closely with ADHD coaches and treatment team members.
  • Coordinate with schools and educational systems when appropriate.
  • Support continuity of care and implementation of treatment plans.

Team Collaboration
  • Participate in staff meetings, clinical consultation meetings, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support El Futuro's training and educational mission, as appropriate.
  • Participate in organizational activities and events.
  • Contribute to a culture of teamwork, warmth, and belonging.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Required
  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
  • Current Physician Assistant certification.
  • Eligible to practice as a Physician Assistant in the state of North Carolina.
  • Experience or strong interest in psychiatry and behavioral health treatment.

Preferred
  • Minimum of two year's post-graduate clinical experience.
  • Psychiatric, behavioral health, family medicine, pediatrics, or ADHD-related experience.
  • Experience working with Latino communities.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary treatment settings.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
  • Required: Bilingual fluency in spoken and written Spanish and English.
  • Ability to establish rapport with children, adolescents, adults, and families.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric disorders and psychopharmacology or demonstrated willingness to develop expertise through training and supervision.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Exceptional organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage timely documentation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems, and video conferencing platforms.

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Environment: Work is performed in-person, with occasional remote work.
  • Assigned Office Site: Primary-Durham Clinic; Secondary site-Siler City Clinic.
  • Work Week:
    • Usually works a standard work week, Monday through Friday but flexible options include a 4-day work week.
    • Minimum two or three late afternoons/evenings per week to meet requirement of 5 hours per week of patient appointments after 4:00pm.
    • Friday 9:00am to 11:00am is required time for organization-wide and team meetings.
  • Extra Time: May be required to work occasional weekends for special events or attend staff meetings outside the regular schedule.
