What is an accounting manager hybrid?

An Accounting Manager Hybrid is a professional who oversees accounting operations and financial reporting, while working in a hybrid work arrangement that combines remote and in-office work. Their responsibilities typically include managing accounting staff, ensuring compliance with financial regulations, preparing financial statements, and coordinating audits. The hybrid aspect allows for flexibility, enabling them to handle certain tasks remotely and others that require in-person collaboration. This role is ideal for experienced accountants who value both the structure of office work and the flexibility of remote work. Accounting Manager Hybrid positions are increasingly common as organizations adapt to modern work environments.

How does a hybrid work environment impact the daily responsibilities of an accounting manager?

As an Accounting Manager in a hybrid work environment, you will often balance remote and in-office tasks. This setup typically enhances flexibility but requires strong communication skills to coordinate with team members and upper management across digital platforms. You may lead virtual meetings, manage workflows through cloud-based accounting software, and ensure deadlines are met regardless of location. Adapting to this structure can improve work-life balance, but it also demands proactive collaboration and time management to maintain accuracy and team cohesion.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an accounting manager in a hybrid work environment?

To thrive as an Accounting Manager in a hybrid setting, you need strong accounting knowledge, leadership abilities, and a relevant degree such as a bachelor's in accounting or finance, often supported by CPA or CMA certification. Familiarity with ERP systems like SAP or Oracle, advanced Excel skills, and experience with cloud-based accounting tools are typically required. Outstanding organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills help you effectively lead teams and manage remote collaboration. These skills and qualifications are crucial for ensuring accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and seamless team performance in a flexible work environment.

  • Own and continue to build out the Month-End Close (MEC) package, progressing toward leading the MEC review as the role matures
  • Prepare and review account reconciliations, researching and resolving discrepancies as needed
  • Prepare financial reporting and analysis for leadership review, progressing toward managing margin and performance reporting over time

  • Help develop and support our accounting team through training and review of weekly and monthly work
  • Recommend and help implement improvements to accounting processes and internal controls
  • Take on additional projects and analysis in support of company growth, as needed
  • Process invoicing for our largest, most complex client on the 1st and 16th of the month

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • CPA certification preferred
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Strong working knowledge of technical accounting areas such as accruals, deferred revenue, prepaid expenses, and account reconciliations is a must

  • Working knowledge of US tax regulations is an added bonus
  • Working knowledge of UK and EU VAT regulations is an added bonus
  • Comfortable training and reviewing the work of other accounting staff
  • Strong financial reporting and analytical skills
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and IF statements
  • Highly organized, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and shifting priorities
