Job description

Position Summary

Radiation therapists use ionizing-radiation producing equipment to administer therapeutic doses of radiation as prescribed by physicians for treatment of disease — generally cancer; the radiation therapist

is responsible for monitoring the condition of the patient undergoing radiation treatment and assessing if changes to the treatment plan are required. This position requires weekend and holiday on-call coverage.

Primary Position Responsibilities

1.Follows all department policies to ensure comprehensive, safe patient care and compliance with state, federal and other regulatory requirements.

2.Performs quality assurance testing, and acquires and records all parameters needed to deliver radiation therapy accurately, using policies, practice standards, prescriptions and professional judgment to ensure quality with regard to all aspects of treatment delivery.

3.Perform simulation procedures accurately and consistently.

4.Performs treatment procedures accurately and consistently.

5.Perform mold room responsibilities which includes fabrication of cerraband cutouts containing (Bismuth, Lead, Tin and Cadmium)

6.Documents patient treatment and assessments thoroughly and accurately.

7.Completes daily and weekly chart checks.

Qualifications

Minimum Education:

Required:

High school diploma or equivalent and completion of an accredited training program in radiation therapy.

Preferred:

Associate degree or higher in health care or related field

Minimum Years of Experience (Amount, Type and Variation):

Preferred:

Minimum one year experience in radiation oncology

License, Registry or Certification:

Required:

New Jersey DEP License (Radiation Therapy) and ARRT-Certified and CPR certified

Preferred:

None

Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities:

Required:

Strong written and verbal communication and critical thinking skills; strong focus on patient safety and customer service; assertiveness; ability to work well on a team. Strong computer skills.

Preferred:

Patient immobilization devices, blocks and wedges, dual energy linear accelerators, treatment simulator, mold room equipment/tools, electronic test/QA equipment; knowledge of Mosaic EHR and Varian linear accelerator.
