Professional Tutor - Writing (Part Time, Academic Year)

Summary

Meets with students individually or in small groups to provide academic support related to course content, course-related readings and course-related written assignments so students can successfully complete their coursework; as well as provides instruction, teaching and guidance in the area of academic success skills

Essential Job Functions

  • Tutors students on specific course content, course-related readings and course-related written assignments
  • Tutors students in the area of academic success skills (e.g. learning strategies, time management, etc.)
  • Coordinates tutoring goals with advisers, academic counselors and faculty to effectively meet student needs
  • Attends tutor training sessions and staff meetings, as applicable
  • Administers individualized tests to students with accommodations
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor's degree in English or a related field (ex: creative writing, composition, communications)
  • Ability to tutor courses such as rhetoric & composition and communication skills, as well as provide planning and drafting guidance for any course with writing-based assignments
  • Ability to work daytime hours on weekdays and work on occasional weekends for special events

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience tutoring or teaching students
