Job description

Class Action Counsel, Brief Writer (Remote) - CA
Direct Counsel is representing a leading national firm seeking a Class Action Counsel (Brief Writer) who want to concentrate exclusively on brief writing in class actions, collective actions, and PAGA matters. This role allows you to focus on the phase of litigation that aligns most with your strengths and professional interests, such as briefing strategy, development of cutting-edge arguments, and legal writing.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 6 years of legal experience in wage and hour and class, collective, and/or representative actions and issues. Candidates must be licensed to practice law in their state of residence.

Requirements:

  • 6+ years of litigation and brief-writing experience
  • Licensed in California and state of residence
  • Excellent academic credentials
  • Significant litigation experience
  • Significant experience in California wage and hour class action and/or PAGA litigation
  • The ability to discern practical and well-founded arguments and briefing for the effective defense of class, collective, and representative actions in wage and hour class action, collective action, and/or PAGA litigation.
  • The ability to effectively and persuasively draft factual and legal arguments on complex matters.
  • The ability to handle briefings in multiple complex matters and move between matters with confidence and effectiveness.
  • An active bar license in the candidate's state of residence. California bar license preferred.
Responsibilities:
  • Drafting substantive motions and briefs including but not limited to, the following:
    • Motions to dismiss
    • Demurrers
    • Motions to compel arbitration
    • Mediation briefs for class, collective, and/or PAGA matters
    • Oppositions to conditional and/or class certifications
    • Motions for summary judgment
  • Consultation with the trial team to formulate a briefing strategy for each assignment and is responsible for analyzing the facts of cases
  • Evaluating and applying applicable legal authority
  • Creating persuasive arguments and briefing

Compensation: $125,000โ€“$175,000 annually + bonus eligibility

Compensation:
