Job description

Description Under general supervision, plans, develops, and initiates nutritional assessments and educational plans and programs for WIC program participants. Duties Determines client eligibility for the WIC program; conducts interviews with parents of small children and pregnant or postpartum women to gather dietary intake information, evaluates anthropometric and dietary intake data to determine nutritional needs of clients (e.g., hematocrit/hemoglobin/lead test, height, weight, etc.); prescribes individualized food packages; refers clients to other agencies for assistance as data dictates. Enters participant and clinic data; issues food packages, loads WIC Nutrition Cards, and explains their use to clients; informs clients of their rights and responsibilities as a participant in the WIC Program

Plans, prepares and conducts individual and group nutrition education sessions with WIC participants; serves as a resource for nutrition information for community health care providers; assists in policy development and implementation as requested. Conduct nutritional assessments of individuals, including obtaining and evaluating individuals' dietary histories, to plan nutritional programs. Assists in client check-in process as needed; determines income of clients and application completion and completion of clinic services as needed.

Refer clients to other relevant agencies and services to meet their social, emotional, and medical needs. Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to the essential functions of the position and all agency safety procedures. Remains informed of current developments and procedures pertinent to duties; may be required to attend seminars/training.

Qualifications Associate degree from an Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND) approved program and have passed the registration examination One (1) year of experience or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Knowledge of lactation management. Must complete 6 hours of continuing education per year.

Training in Emergency Preparedness to be completed upon hiring.
