Classification Summary Watonwan County Human Services is currently seeking a motivated person to serve as the Watonwan County Women, Infant & Children (WIC) Coordinator. This position is full-time (40 hours per week, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) Note: This position will be filled as either a Public Health Nurse/Registered Nurse/Nutrition Coordinator

This position is responsible for the day-to-day functions of the Supplemental Nutrition Program for WIC in Watonwan County. The WIC Coordinator manages the local WIC program, oversees all program functions, assesses nutritional needs and provides nutrition education to participants, offers breastfeeding education, ensures compliance with state policies and federal regulations, trains staff and oversees their work, assures quality services and interacts directly with state and regional WIC staff. Also provides back-up to other Public Health programs.

Examples of Duties Minnesota Merit System Examples of Duties Assesses client's needs and the level of service required and coordinates service providers. Provides direct skilled nursing service to clients as recommended by physician. Uncovers health problems through observation, interviews and analysis of records and initiates appropriate action.
Teaches the client basic principles of healthful living applying information from related fields such as nutrition, dental hygiene, safety, etc. Teaches and supervises family members and auxiliary nursing personnel proper nursing and physical therapy care of the client as directed by physicians. Communicates/consults with the physician, nursing team, home health aides, social worker, and other involved caregivers to coordinate health care plans to meet client needs.
Performs diagnostic tests as authorized and interprets the findings to client and/or families. Instructs caregivers to recognize early signs of disease and deviations from normal health patterns. Assists client in obtaining medical supplies and establishes appropriate client service fees.
Maintains case file documentation. Provides school health services to assigned schools. Provides input in program planning, the development of agency goals and the evaluation of the agency's programs and policies.
Participates on pre-admission screening teams, community child protection teams, etc. Encourages community development by initiating or participating in action to address specific community needs. Represents the Public Health Department by addressing various public and private organizations, community groups, and members of the general public concerning policies, programs, responsibilities and activities to inform and elicit community support.
May be assigned to work in specific public health program areas, such as WIC, MCH, EPS, etc. Provide in-service education to personal care attendants, home health aides, and housekeeping personnel. May supervise and evaluate personal care attendants, home health aides, and housekeepers.
Minimum Qualifications Minnesota Merit System Minimum Qualifications Public Health Nurse: Certification as a Public Health Nurse in Minnesota and current licensure as a registered nurse in Minnesota. Registered Nurse: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in Minnesota. Nutrition Coordinator: Bachelor's degree with a major in food and nutrition, clinical nutrition, dietetics or a closely related field: or current licensure as a registered nurse.
Watonwan County Preferred Qualifications Candidates who apply must have current licensure as a Registered Nurse in MN OR a Public Health Nurse Certification, or the ability to become certified as a PHN in MN and current licensure as an RN in MN, OR Bachelor's Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a closely related field, OR Registered Dietitian, Registered Dietitian Nutritionist : registered with the Commission of Dietetic Registration, OR Associate's Degree in Dietetics Technology (Must be registered at time of hire if you are a graduate of a Dietetic Technician program and maintain ongoing registration as Dietetic Technician by the Commission on Dietetic Registration).
