Job description

Compensation Type: Salaried
Compensation: $30.00
The Non-Credit Instructor, Upward Bound (UB) is responsible for providing engaging and empowering academic instruction to program participants (grades 9-12) during the annual UB Summer Enrichment Institute (SEI). All courses are geared towards generating excitement for learning by introducing next school year's curriculum and academic skills. Each course should incorporate one overarching project. Students may work in groups or individually on the class project and the projects will be presented at the end of the program. Coursework should be based on culturally responsive pedagogy and multicultural perspectives.
Instruction and Program Support
  • Provides effective instruction to high school students in a virtual classroom format during the designated work schedule. Develops curriculum and materials for assigned course(s). Participates in an orientation session and meetings as scheduled.
  • Prepares, develops and proctors one pre-test and one post-test for assigned course(s). Completes and maintains required reports (i.e., class attendance, supply lists, course syllabus, pre- and post-test results, final grades, etc.) and submits by the given due date. Adhere to established TRIO policies and procedures.
  • Provides academic instruction in the following subjects: Wellness, Project Based Learning, English A (Level I & II), English B (Level III & IV), Spanish, French. Other subjects taught through the SEI Program include Physical Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Math I (Algebra), Math II (Geometry), Math III (Algebra II), Math IV (Pre-Calculus), and Self-Development.

Customer Service and Classroom Support
  • Participate in out-of-class activities/events with students and parents as agreed upon with the Upward Bound Manager. Maintains continual contact with students, and maintains good relations with Upward Bound partners, participants and others.
  • Models professional behavior with participants, parents, and staff. Handles disruptive behavior with respect, follows guidelines, processes and procedures, and reports any issues to leadership. Monitors participant participation and attendance.

  • Fosters and maintains a safe environment of respect and inclusion for faculty, staff, students, and members of the community.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • One (1) year of experience.
  • State Motor Vehicle Operator's License or demonstrable ability to gain access to work site(s).
