Job description

TITLE:  INTERVENTION TEACHER

QUALIFICATIONS:          

  • Valid Ohio certification/licensure - K-8 (reading and math)
  • -Bachelor's degree 

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

JOB GOAL: To provide diagnostic/prescriptive instruction to students in grades K-8 who are deficient in readiness skills and/or reading/math skills. 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Administer screening and progress monitoring assessments to inform research-based instruction as directed by the principal and curriculum department.
  2. Demonstrate familiarity with the administration and interpretation of standardized tests and diagnostic survey.
  3. Maintain daily records on each student served.
  4. Work closely with classroom teachers, building administrators, and support personnel.
  5. Communicate effectively with parents regarding student progress.
  6. Coordinate all tutoring curriculum with the adopted Language Arts & Math Course of Study and resources.
  7. Understand, communicate with colleagues, and fulfill requirements of the latest regulations from the Ohio Department of Education, for example, the Third Grade Reading Guarantee, Ohio's Plan to Raise Literacy Achievement, and the new requirement of House Bill 436 requiring the screening and intervention of children with dyslexia.
  8. Maintain a professional awareness of current reading practices through participation in professional organizations, attendance at conferences, coursework and/or by reading professional journals, etc.
  9. Maintain appropriate discipline and a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning.
  10. Serve as a resource person for the reading/math curriculum in the assigned building
  11. Perform other related duties as may be assigned by the building principal or curriculum department.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year as established by the Board and terms of negotiated contract.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of professional personnel and provisions of the collaborative bargaining agreement.

ADDITIONAL WORKING CONDITIONS: 

  • Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue.
  • Excellent observation and communication skills
  • May perform strenuous tasks, such as lifting, when working with students.
  • Assisting students with behavioral/management needs
  • Frequent evening and/or weekend work
